The english language is an ever evolving thing.
How doth thou expect thine ancestors to praise thy manner of speach? Thou art insulting the speaking of the younger generation yet thou doth not remember how thine ancestors spoke!

But basically yeah, things are always going to be changed. Things should be kept in order to some extent (for example, remind people about the importance of grammer and proper punctuation "Lets eat Grandpa!" and "Lets eat, Grandpa!". Petty changes, but that one comma prevented the need to verify "wait... you want to eat me?". "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse" "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" Verification: "Wait... you jacked off a horse with your uncle?")
Theres no need to ALWAYS be a little prat about everything said, however you need to understand how to speak so that other people can understand what you are trying to tell them.

I'm pretty tight on my own grammar, but correcting other people's just makes you look like an arrogant prat.
Or, you know, educated... There's also that...
But these days there seems to be some strange trend to equalize education with arrogance and elitism. Nobody is allowed to be better or smarter than someone else.
I mostly blame politics and the constant brown nosing of the lowest common denominator. Mediocre performance is king now.

I...am not a nazi... I am somthing of a strict advocate of correct grammar.

And hell, I mess up, I tend to veer more towards those who put effort into their written word rather than COMPLETE AND UTTER CORRECTNESS. I know I am not personally infallible in this, so Nazi is a bit of a strong term to use on me.

I do like my long words though. They're fun.

I would consider myself a relatively benevolent grammar Nazi, just because misuse of the English language annoys me so much.
This summarizes my feelings on this subject.
I'm actually a grammar nazi in real life. I always correct the sentence when I notice a mistake from a friend or a relative.
I'm somewhat the same, although I was recently disheartened by the fact that some of my friends have started saying 'LOL' in real life.

Anger...rising.....
My friend said lol in real life, and I had a rant about it for a minute or so. My grammar is not perfect, but I try so I like it when people point out my spelling mistakes, but when people point out your spelling mistakes during an argument just to make it look like they are winning the argument I turn full blown Grammar Nazi on them correcting every capital letter out of place mwuahahahahaha.

Avoiding the topic at hand to break down what a person has typed? Not the coolest move out there, but definitely not the worst. It's trolling, but on such a weak level it's nearly ineffective. But I will grammar Nazi someone if they speak in L337. That's completely different.
What this guy says. Blatant misuse of the english language does annoy me a bit. If it looks like an honest mistake though to point it out is just an acceptable form of trolling. Also most of these grammer Nazi's probably wouldn't confront someone onthe street for using an incorrectly structured sentence.

Ehh, it doesn't bother me that much. Sometimes I can understand it but other times it's annoying as hell. It should be used sparingly and really only for comedic purposes.

I don't like the term "grammar Nazi" because it automaticly forces a negitive image of people who canactually speak English, just because it has the word NAZI in it. When I was growing up my mum corrected me if my grammar was incorrect, and I guess bad grammar gets passed down each generation. So if one of my friends says was when they should say were I'm going to tell them so that they don't make that mistake in the future. I'm not doing this to make myself feel smart. I'm just doing it to pass on my knowledge to them. I have some friends in Belgium who say that they speak better English than most of my Scottish friends, now isn't that just a little bit embarrassing?

I think I ended up being a grammar Nazi. Whenever I see people misspell many words in their comments I feel disgusted and get a bit mad. Especially when people believe with all their existential power that you're=your, like your stupid. Are you implying that I own a stupid person? I don't understand what YOU'RE saying in YOUR caveman language! Like the Republican Space Ranger called Dick said to his alien cleaner in that television show from gta 4: SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH!

Phew! Thanks forum, I really needed to get this out of my system :D
