After lots of editions of the game is it getting boring of just nicking cars and driving them around and being a gangster. Or will GTA ever get old ? Or is there a substitute for the hit game?

As long as the next one doesn't involve a cousin (and others) who decides to call you every time you actually decide to do something, then I'll buy it, play it and enjoy it.

I've also played the Saint's Row series. It would be the closest thing to a substitute.

Well, I enjoy playing those games, every now and then a creative/original quest comes along, keeps the game fresh for me. I don't go around randomly killing civilians anymore, haven't done that since GTA3 on PS2.

I used to adore Grand Theft Auto, until GTA IV came out - now I think it's highly overrated. I'd still buy it, play it, complete it - then i'd be done. But with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, GTA III and Vice City, I played through the game more than three times. I definetly prefer Saints Row & Saints Row 2 to GTA IV.

Unfortunately, i'll still give in and buy GTA V when it comes out. =P

The GTA games got boring once Mercenaries came out and you were shown the light. Rockstar doesn't know how to make good sandbox games. They just create a big world and then put missions within that world and hope the missions are good. Whereas Mercenaries' missions are basically single player missions that were used to construct the huge map.

iv gotten bored of Grand theft auto, i haven't really had fun with it since the excellent Vice City. i hope the next game gets its head out of its rectum and gets silly and outrageous again, a reason why i found Saints Row 2 a far superior game, because it was actually fun

I stopped after GTA3: San Andreas. I originally intended to get GTA4 since the russian mafia sounded like a great theme to run with, but I didn't have any time to play a sandbox game. So I shelved the purchase of GTA4 for a later date. I slowly began to realize, listening to others talk about the game, seeing bits of it played, that it's the same thing, but with a different story. Then all these little GTA games came out, like I think San Adreas got an expansion, then China Town Wars. I became aware that it was the same thing with a different cover. If I wanted more of the same, I could play what I currently had, and try for 100% completion (which I have not).

So, I'm basically done with regular GTA. The same mold is fine for different settings (like Red Dead), and more or less Assassins Creed (which is only loosely GTA-like, in that it's sand box, but it's enough like GTA that I have called it, "ancient GTA, with horses").
