I think I hate both...My old Nvdia card hated getting drivers updates and overheated when one was installed.
And my current ATI has a case of Gremlins in which some days just refuses to work unless I ask.

Horrible...BOTH OF THEM!

Nvidia used to be the best, but lately ATI seriously pulled ahead in terms of the 4850/70/90's and the 5 series cards are godlike. It'll be interesting to see what DX11 card Nvidia comes out with, because I'd really like to check out their 3D jazz.

Nvidia still has the best cards when it comes to performance, but nowadays ATI is the best value as far as I know(aside from various 8800s which perform better than GTX260s).

I've generally liked Nvidia, but I've had several ATI cards in my past, and since I've been entertaining the thought of getting a new AMD processor (again, I've used both Intel and AMD) I might get a 4870 or something along those lines.

I like whatever gives me the most "bang for my buck" and right now, that's ATI. However, I have an Nvidia card because at the time, that is what I thought was a good choice.

For the most of their history, Nvidia has made more powerful cards and supported them better by offering more incentives to game developers. However ATi had massive graphical advantages around 2004 and are picking up steam once again.

For the cards that I've had the Nvidia cards tend to have less driver issues. But I do have issues with some of their business practices, that just seem to be an unfair advantage and give incentives for game developers to punish consumers for having an ATi card. Such things as the PhysX card, not giving anti-aliasing options when an Nvidia card is not detected and so forth turn me off.

When I buy something I look at the product and less so the name. However if I had to choose a company, in the end I would side with ATi on a moral standpoint. It's still a close call though, and their competition makes games better.

Great post, although I think "picking up steam" is a little bit of an understatement, and don't mean that subjectively. ATI have been ahead in the price/performance war for a long time, and now they're winning the straight performance race as well. ATI's second most powerful card has a single GPU that beats two of nVidia's best GPUs in SLI mode! That's not picking up steam, it's steamrolling your opposition into the ground. I'm sure nVidia will get their act together eventually, but not any time soon by all accounts.

I always used nVidia cards, first a gforce4, then a 5700, a 6600, an 8600 and now I moved on to an ATI Radeon HD4870. It works perfectly, I've never had any driver issues and it is way cheaper than an nVidia card of equal power. I think I'll keep buying ATI video cards unless that changes.

And PhysX sucks ass.
