There was this game, you may have heard of it, called Mischief Makers for the Nintendo 64. Great game, played it a lot as a kid. Wouldn't replace the graphics with an update AT ALL. You know why? If you keep updating the graphics to old games it's not the same game anymore, its soul has been changed too much. A slight update to an old game like Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was in order, because that improved the game's presentation, but alas, sometimes it shouldn't be done. Mischief Makers is an example of a game which had dated graphical presentation compared to other N64 games of the era (my childhood's equivalent of FFVII, only Enix made it, not Squaresoft, before they merged) and was voted down by critics because of it, but I still think it is an awesome game.

I personally think remaking some games like Final Fantasy VII would be very, very wrong. Final Fantasy VII isn't the same if you try and make it look like Advent Children. It is pure 90s in its game design, and because of the graphical charms of N64/Playstation era 3D games, people still play them, not just because of nostalgia, but because they're GOOD.
