It was horrible, but not as horrible as the old Captain America movie from the early nineties.

Nothing... NOTHING will ever be worse then Electra. That movie single handedly made me lose faith in all of the world and question the existence of god. Every person who took part in that movie should be round up and punished.

I saw it, along with Thor and X-Men First Class, and both of those were indeed much better than Green Lantern. However, it was by no means a bad film. I really enjoyed Green Lantern, it just didn't quite match the other two, but as superhero movies go I have seen a lot worse (I'm going to risk the wrath of my fellow geek here and admit that I have never thought Superman was that good, films or comics - I just can't get interested in him at all). The reason people say Green Lantern was bad is because everyone has their own idea of what a superhero should be like in a film after reading his/her comics, and in this case a truly awesome film was sullied by the fact that people got pissed that it was a different idea of what they thought, plus we were denied the chance to see a literal army of Green Lanterns like the trailer suggested (which, to be fair, I am also miffed at).

That being said, I have always been a person who judges things on their merits alone and doesn't simply compare them to what they're based on. Comparing the Green Lantern film to the comics is unfair, because they are different mediums and you're trying to force the film to be better purely so you can justify it being based on the IP, when really it is a very good film on it's own terms. If it was the exact same film except the comics had never existed, people would have loved it a lot more and would be lauding it's praises in the street, much as they do with the Nolan Batman reboots and the latest Marvel films. For the same reason, I really like the Silent Hill film and Resident Evil films, specifically because I know that they are good (if unrealistic) films own their own merits, and the only reason they get any kind of hate is because people compare them to the rest of the IPs, which are a completely different medium (i.e. video games).

One day, people will learn to accept things as being good, or indeed bad, without having to compare them to everything else related to it, but sadly it seems that day is far off. Nevertheless, it doesn't diminish the indisputable fact that, franchise aside, the Green Lantern movie was indeed a great movie, on it's own terms that is in fact a movie, and NOT a comic.

i'll back you up, i LOVE superman, i love smallville to bits and i suck up lots of tid bits here and there on superman whenever i can, but i do NOT like those old movies at all...good god they are horrible to me personally.

and yeah, for a popcorn flick i didn't mind green lantern that much at all, sure it wasn't anywhere near as good as some of the other super hero movies, but it wasn't THAT bad.

Um... The Green Lantern Corps let him keep the ring when they fired him. Even though that's like letting a fired policeman keep his gun. It was a ridiculously powerful weapon that he shouldn't have been allowed to keep, let alone use.

Also, it didn't make any sense for Hal's boss to yell at him for defeating the new planes when that's what he was supposed to do.

Also, the fact that Hal & c:eek: knew Hector Hammond was introduced way too late and suddenly. "Hi, Hector! We suddenly know who you are!"

That movie can't be called good writing.

Also, when did Cap America look like a photoshop job? Personally, I thought his skinny form looked really convincing and not like CGI.

By far the worst superhero movie I've ever seen, although there are plenty which come close... just not close enough.

Apparently there were (surprisingly understandable) reasons why they chose a CGI suit over spandex or the like, but what I can't quite accept is how poorly done the CGI feels. Especially considering that it's a AAA title. The other issue I had with the film is how much time they spend focusing on Earth and seemingly trivial things. More time is spent on Earth, with girls and jets, than with y'know... the highly probable annihilation of the planet.

Anyway, yes it really was that bad, but there are plenty of other movies out there that are just as guilty. It's just a matter of picking through the pile to find the genuinely awesome (and preferrably horrifying) ones. Speaking of, it's time to watch me some horror movies.

X-MEN ORIGINS WOLVERINE

/thread won
that is the worst comic book movie ever.

Green Lantern was a pretty good movie though. It was not bad, just not as good as it could've been. Moviebob is a sore little fanboy who can't handle any of his childhood memories get changed or re-imaged without freaking out like a stereotypical hipster moviecritic. Cmon they're SUPERHEROES. Does every movie need to be dark, brooding and serious? Lets have some frakin' fun once and a while you souless toasters.

I watched Green Lantern expecting it to be terrible because of all the negative reviews and I was actually surprised. It wasn't the greatest movie ever but its not as bad as reviewers/fanboys said it is. And as far as it being the worst comic book movie... Not even close. I'm guessing whoever created this thread has not seen Catwoman, Elektra, X men 3 and Origins, Batman and Robin, The Hulk and either Fantastic Four movies. Those films were all truely terrible.

I said it was ok writing, not spectacular, just better than Thor. I don't know if you saw Captain America in 3D and it didn't translate to standard, but it was terrible. I watched it two nights ago and it was completely distracting how bad it was. Also, I don't know if I mentioned it at all, but the director of CA also did that horrible hacky move with the 3D where the shield comes towards the audience. Why does everyone still do that as if it's original? I really hope this 3D fad dies because it's just another excuse to put less work into movies and charge higher ticket prices. It doesn't add to the content, it's just a gimmick.

First class shit on it. But then again First Class shit on basically every other superhero movie I've ever seen, yes I am including The Dark Knight. First Class was also one of my favorite movies I've ever seen. But on the topic of Green Lantern, First Class was heaps better as the vote says, but I didn't think it was a bad movie. It's ending and story were predictable, but it was entertaining. I think generally for a movie to be considered completely bad it has to have predictable and lame story telling AND it can't be entertaining.

The worst part of Captain America's CGI was the part where he was chasing after the car just when he got his powers. It was terrible CGI. But the rest of the movie was fine. I didn't like the movie though.

Damn, in after mod changed it! Owell. Yeah, it was pretty bad, but compared to stuff in the seventies and eighties(other than Superman), it was Raging-effing-Bull! Have you seen the Cap America movie before the revamp?

I didn't think it was all that bad, in fact I found it quite enjoyable. Maybe that's because I'm not overly familiar with the source material beyond Bob's Reader's Digest summery in The Big Picture.

Hell, was anybody unfortuate enough to watch the Spawn movie that came out in the late 90's? Now THAT was a bad movie.
I was JUST about to say that I'm sure it wasn't as bad as Spawn...

FFS that movie was HORRID!

I saw it in theaters no less...

OT: I thought Green Lantern was bad, but not the worst Super Hero ever made. Not by a long shot.

Catwoman was bad. Spawn was horrid.

I am inclined to say Batman and Robin was brilliant, only because I invented a drinking game to it that rivals the Boondock Saints "drink every cuss word" game.

Drink every time there is a "face palm" moment. I haven't been able to get through it yet without risking severe liver damage....

I feel like Dark Knight was overly hyped simply because of Heath Ledger's death. Christian Bale is HORRIBLE as Batman, and everything else about that movie was very meh.

The ending especially. What the hell was that BS....

I'm expecting the next Batman to tank and hard. I mean Bane....? Really? Did they SEE Batman and Robin?

Yeah, I don't get why people flip out over TDK so much. Especially since Batman in my opinion isn't all that great a superhero. I mean I get the whole thing of he's doing all this shit without the ability to fly or shoot lasers or whatever, but that's just it... I mean at this point he's just a rich guy who tries out all kinds of weapons before DARPA gets a hold of them. Not all that interesting. I'd much rather see a movie where people have actual super powers. I don't know I just think it's a lot more fun to watch a guy fly around and beat the hell out of people and shoot them with lasers than a guy basically swinging into battle with a cape and punching people.
