OK so me and some friends decide to catch the midnight showing of DC's Green Lantern and we were amazed at how bad it was. The two villains were handled poorly, one was under developed to the point of me having no clue why he was in the fucking movie, and the other was a fucking space octopus. It also shit on the actual origin story by mixing the rebirth story and his origin in one. paralax is a giant yellow space bug thing that embodies fear, not what the movie depicts. on a aesthetic thing, paralax was a head with cloud tentacle things which made it hilarious to look at. (If you dont go see it, paralax in the movie looks like tentacle Stewie from family guy) OK to sum up it is a two hour long shit on green lantern, comic books, and cinema in general. all that movie has accomplished is setting a new low point and making me waste 2 hours that i could be sleeping. So fuck the new green lantern movie I want my money back.

Also the guy who decided to put in the new captcha is going to burn in the deepest ring of hell.

I find it fairly funny that Ryan Reynolds is doing a DC film and then later on he is doing Marvels Deadpoll, which I cant wait to see a trailer for.

I haven't seen it so I can't say, but your post is discouraging. Not that I was really expecting their best effort.

No one expects good movies anymore.

Also, the captcha says "PLAY XBOX LIVE," asks for an answer and I say in caps NO. That is an acceptable answer, Escapist. That is the ONLY answer.
HAH! This thread was worth reading just because of that captcha. Fantastic.

OT: Havent seen it yet, probably will, dont know if I'll bother going to the cinema for it.

OK two things. Ryan was kinda phoning it in, I have seen him do other things and this is not his best, it could be his worst thou ,i don't know, i haven't watched all his movies but its up there. Second when paralax was doing his thing at the end all i could think of was pinkie pie's song "giggle at the ghosties"

Em were you expecting something more from a Superhero? Maybe I just have lower standards or lower expectations(and watch them on Sky where I don't pay ?7 just for 1 movie) but I never find them too bad. Seriously if you go into Superhero movies(and I hate referencing him) with a Yahtzee mentality thinking it will be shit you can be pleasantly surprised when or if it is good and at what it does right.

Not that I'm suggesting I expected Green Lantern to be anywhere near this level, but you can't really say that The Dark Knight, Watchmen or the two Iron Man films were bad comic book films. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a level of quality from superhero films.

No it is not unreasonable just kinda laughable. Most comic book films are unfortunately cheap cashins. As I said expect the worst hope for the best. I just want to say the Iron Man one I was a little pissed on his origin in the first movie. Unless you know they later reveal that the the guy was a pawn of you know who then I suppose I can let it slide given that the other guys were different due to the time period the comics were written in.

well i enjoyed, though hector was really underplayed. i get where they were going with him though. parrallax was...cheap...much like galactus from fantastic four. either way, i thought the acting was pretty good and i had some laughs from ryan. the leave it open for sequel and i swear if they hinted any harder at fear and sinestro i was going to gag from it.

I'm still going to see because I dont believe I should give an opinion on something untill I see it, but I don't think there will be much difference in opinion though

Ehh, I still think I'm gonna see it. They had a good amount of faith in the movie, so it can't be completely terrible.

Would have seen it with a few friends, but it turns out that instead of inviting me to the movie he invited my Ex that I absolutely despise along with him.

Really made me decide that I've had enough of that asshole...

What were we talking about?

I haven't seen it yet. Green Lantern is an extremely complex origin and storyline to shove into 2 hours. I think the thing was to gain some cash flow from this and possible make some better sequels.
The "Green Lantern" concept just lends itself to books and animation much more than live action, and it's too bad it didn't remain in those mediums. Live action is too constricted by what can be accomplished without throwing gobs of money at the problems, and animation simply gets around the whole "anything conceptualized can be created" issue that is the central theme of the series. Personally I don't think they'll even recoup their budget, which is a shame because DC has some interesting properties that likely will never get a chance now.

Thanks for the info. The trailers looooooked pretty good, but seemed just vague enough on all the bits that I knew would irritate me if they altered them. I was thinking of going to go see it this coming weekend, but I often have difficulty with enjoying comics-based movies that deviate from the source a bit too much for my liking. I'd been somewhat hopeful, if not apprehensive, with the Ryan Reynolds choice after seeing him in "Chaos Theory". I may still go see it, but knowing this much already it's a bit difficult for me to justify the twenty bucks blown.
