I've been over a month and a half wondering if I should get Guild wars 2 or Tera... Sadly.

I'm really interested in Tera just because of the gameplay type... Since I used to play Dragon Nest, I really like games with that type of gameplay... You're constantly doing something... I heard that Tera gets really grindy and mostly '' do this, do that '' '' kill this, kill that '' later on... I have no idea about Guild wars 2... But for some reasons, I still feel like going for Guild wars 2... Yes, I don't like the click & spam gameplay but I don't know... It looks better than Tera... Even tho I never, never played Guild wars.

I'm more of a PvE player... 90% of the time, I NEVER liked PvP on ANY games I've played in my life... I watched alot of streams and videos of Guild wars 2 and the PvE looks really, really boring... Is it? I can't tell since there is no free version, yet.

Tera seems to have better PvE but crappy PvP... ( I don't like monthly payments, I HATE it ! )
Guild wars 2 seems to have crappy PvE but better PvP...

Like I said, I prefer doing PvE with players, grinding on mobs with a group... Solo in PvE alot, etc..

What would you guys suggest me? I'm 50% Tera and 50% Guild wars 2 right now, I can't choose.

Guild Wars 2. Tera isn't all it's hyped up to be, whereas Guild Wars 2 is all it's hyped up to be and more.
Do you know any videos with any '' massive '' group / solo PvE going on? I haven't seen any and I'd like to see what it looks like.

I've seen some before that my friends have showed me, and if the internet here at the house I'm staying at for the next week weren't so darn slow I'd link you to one.

Don't buy into all the hype. GW2 is good but not perfect. It still borrows ideas from wow and other standard mmorpg's. But it also does quite a few things new and differently, in a good way. GW2 wins over TERA any day in my opinion. So get that.

To tell you the major difference:
TERA has full action combat. But that's also the only thing it has. The rest is pretty bland and grindy. GW2 has semi-action combat, but also an interesting questing system (very well disguised so it doesn't feel as a checklist), and no specific tanks/healers/dps. PvP is pretty well balanced and they want to make an e-sport out of it. Plus it also has WvW, which means huge raids with 100 vs 100 vs 100 people. (3 servers versus each other)

So yea, GW2 wins.

EDIT:
As for the massive PvE battles. There's dynamic events in GW2. Some of them are huge world boss battles that scale up the more people are involved. Technically as many people as you want can join in on those. But dungeons are only a maximum of 5, even if they can be pretty hard. So no real 'raids' in GW2.

Here's another one for lv 14 or so. Shadow Behemoth. One of the more epic fights of the human starting area:

Well "TERA" does become synonymous with "grind" after a very short while.

So you might like it??? *confused shrug*

I quite like the PvE in GW2, but if your definition of quality PvE includes:

- Regimented grouping
- Tank/healer/DPS interplay
- Raiding/gear grinding

Then no, you won't like the PvE in GW2. And if you don't like PvP either, then I imagine Tera (shudder) would be the better option.

Okay, so... What would be your definition of group / solo PvE in GW2?

- Personal Story (think TOR's story quests, poorer voice acting)
- Dynamic Events (think PQ's from WAR, Rifts from Rift...slightly better than both)
- Map exploration (Vistas, Points of Interest, Jumping Puzzles)
- Hearts (again, a mix of PQ's with the more traditional questing model)
- 5 man dungeons
- Crafting

I particularly enjoy the exploration in GW2, and the Dynamic Events. Some of the latter are quite large in scope. The overall flow of PvE is much more relaxed/organic than in most theme park MMOs. I realize there are those who REALLY like raiding and the treadmill of incremental stat advancement, and those people will probably find GW2 to be a "shallow" experience, as there is no treadmill waiting for you at the level cap.

EDIT: My bad, I really didn't split that into group/solo.

DE's and Dungeons are the group content. Everything else is basically solo.

Guild Wars 2.
'cos ... there's a lot of good points to put here, but I'm gonna skip all that.

The main reason you should get it is: no subscription fee.
So even if you end up not liking it, you don't feel obligated to play it like you're on some sort of timer.

Thanks for your answer c:

But by any chances is there any grinding with groups outside of dungeons? Like normal mobs grinding? Here's an example but from another game... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkHUPdFPQFo

I'll just add to what everyone else is saying, get GW2 not Tera.

I would go into a pros cons list but since one game isn't even out I couldn't honestly tell you why its better for certain other than the subscription. Definitely buy GW2 first, give it a college try, and a month down the road if it isn't your bag, then buy Tera. Tera is already only $20 and will probably be cheaper before to long, like pay $15 get the game plus one month of play. I also think that Tera will probably be forced to adopt some type of f2p model by second quarter 2013. Pretty much if SWTOR and GW2 are free to play by 2013, every other AAA will follow (except WOW, because its sub base defies all logic). Anyways my position is mostly financial GW2 is the bigger bang for your buck atm.

Can you grind mobs outside of dungeons? Yes. There's even a kill-streak bonus for experience for the people who like that sort of thing. Do you need a group to do it? Most certainly not. Your video reminds me a bit of hardcore level grinding in DAoC and EQ. There's definitely nothing like that to be found in GW2. It can be hard to find that these days outside of Korean titles.

Also quick video link to answer your question about mob grinds outside of dungeons heres a quick video of some different types of non dungeon pve offerings. Yes you can easily group for these types of situations, but it is not mandatory to enjoy them, you can also just run up and join the fray without the fun of LFG in chat.

So... does the one person who picked tera over gw2 wanna come out and talk about his issues?

Get Guild Wars 2. And if you've got any questions just visit <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Guild-Wars-2>the group. I think there's every important bit of information somewhere in a news post if you care for starting out prepared.

Sure you can 'grind' in Gw2 in PvE. But it won't be mob grinding. Instead you'll be grinding dynamic events. As in, events that happen at certain intervals and can be done by anyone who wants to join. This can range from simply stopping some bugs from swarming your quest area, to escorting a caravan, to collecting items for a goal, to defeating some huge-ass world boss.

Don't get me wrong, these events aren't few and far in between. They happen quite often, and mostly require you to kill stuff. They appear on the minimap with big orange circles even if you're not right on top of the spot, so you can go and search them out. If there are enough people on the map a new event can pop up one after another, or even two or three at the same time.

Just remember that it's not the same as grinding mobs. You're basically 'quest grinding' the dynamic events. As mobs themselves give poor exp compared to what you get for completing quests and dynamic events.

I haven't played Guild Wars 2 yet but I'd say get that as Tera is a huge disappointment. The story in Tera is pretty damn awful and doesn't engage you at all, the only thing to keep driving you forward is the gameplay, which isn't really that great. The game boasts 'action' gameplay which it does have, but the attacks and spells take way too long to execute and there will be a noticeable delay between different attacks/spells, making the combat feel sluggish and stuttery, not the smooth gameplay that Guild Wars 2 seems to offer. Whats more is that the Tera playerbase is fairly bleak as far as I know. Tera is just a long, faceless grind. Also Guild Wars 2 has no subscription fee which is a huge bonus.
