-.- Musicals tend to be romantic dramas with music to be honest. The comedy musical is a rare breed.
(Raised on a healthy diet of theatre and musical trips to London)
Modern stage plays have their roots in the Edwardian musical comedies that replaced operas...

If they've fallen out of favor on your side of the pond that's most unfortunate, I love Me and My Girl.
Unfortunately the musical scene is largely dominated by dramas here in the UK, especially in the long-running shows. It's odd really, but that's the way it is.
By the way, I'm not referring to light-hearted musicals such as Wicked as comedies. It's a drama with some jokes in it, in my eyes at least.

I'm not sure if this counts 100% but I thought Mean Girls was a hilarious movie.
Mean Girls - seemingly the one movie that's fair game for everyone to enjoy.

Best line in the movie: If you have sex you will get AIDS and you will die.... now everyone rubber up.

OT: I don't really care for most Chick flicks as they tend to be poorly written and so streamlined I could just do a play by play from the trailer and get the same thing minus a little of the comedy. Very rarely does one stand out as a movie worth note.

Depends on what type of romantic comedies we are talking about. If you're referring to the chick flick variety which invariably stars Jennifer Aniston, then no I don't like them. However, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is pretty much a romantic comedy and that's a great movie.

I wouldn't make plans to watch one, but I have on occasion sat down in front of the TV and, with nothing else on, been able to enjoy a romantic comedy. My problem with them is, that the comedy part usually falls flat on its face.
As for 'Love Actually', that's your opinion, I personally didn't like it much, though that was probably due to the presence of Hugh Grant.

They can keep me entertained, but it's not something I make plans to watch really. Though when they cross into "chick flick" territory it doesn't intrest me at all.

If Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (or simply: Amélie) counts as a romantic comedy, then sure. It's great.

I think in terms of Romance being a focus, Charlie Chaplin's City Lights is the Only Rom Com I will sit through. Don't know if Airplane and the Naked Gun series count, but those are good too.

Shout out to "America's Sweethearts". not a very good movie, but the movie presentation scene at the end is fucking hilarious and is almost worth watching the whole movie for.

I think Jean-Pierre Jeunet exists in a world/genre of his own.

That could just be the fan-girl in me speaking though.

I love that man so much.

Realistically, it's like a fantasy rom-com.

I tend to take it on a film by film basis, certainly not my favorite genre but there are some good ones, mean girls as has been stated here for example.

What I dislike is when people use the genre to spend 90 mins hating on men or portraying us as jerks! but that only a handful in my experience thankfully

The problem with romantic comedies is that they are neither A) romantic, or B) particularly funny. Thats false advertising right there.

Forget the Mass Effect 3 ending, why aren't people up in arms about this?

And yes, I went there.

I like movies that are romantic and funny, but rom-com's tend to be neither of these things.

A movie that I find romantic and funny is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

It happened one night is an awesome movie.

As is some like it hot.

Most rom coms made in the last few decades have been pretty terrible though.

I'm a man, and I hate 'RomComs'.
Mainly because I'm not the type that enjoys romantic movies, and I don't find the humor in such films funny.

Most of the time no since I didn't like the film "Stupid, Crazy, Love" however I did liked "There's Something About Mary". It depends on the humour in that film.

I really appreciate It Happened One NIght (1934) and Somethings Gotta Give (2003) as well as Annie Hall (1977) and Stardust Memories (1980). It really breaks down to the quality of those films and their ability to make me care about their characters and laugh.

Now, in my humble opinion, MOST romantic comedies as bad. It's because they are formula and are of low quality. It seems studios crank those out at a quick rate starring Mark Ruffalo or Luke Wilson and Reese Witherspoon or Sarah Jessica Parker. They slap a red title on a white box and sell it to my mom to make a quick buck off of a movie that can only be described as "cute" The result is not funny and it is not romantic.

Plot= Man meets woman, man and woman fall 'in love', man somehow screws up, woman leaves man, man 'proves himself' to woman, man and woman end up together at the end.

Setting= A big city or a foreign country that is most likely European

Characters= Woman is an overworked professional, Man is fun loving and secure and 'just what she needs', Womans best friend is sexual and sometimes a minority, Man's best friend is crude an broish and 'doesn't understand love. The main couples best friends usually hook up by the end of the film so that everyone lives HAPPILY EVER AFTER

I don't mind comedy sometimes, but I prefer it if romance was kept out of all of my movies, comedies included. I just hate romance in general. I've seen a few that I liked because they were actually decent movies in addition romantic comedies, though. I also liked this one Chinese one called Summer Holiday with Richie Ren and Sammy Cheng despite it probably being pretty crappy.

I'm not a guy.

I dislike most romantic comedies, but I really loved A Walk to Remember. Maybe it's because it was the first Nicolas Spark movie I saw, and knowing that every single one of his other movies is exactly the same as A Walk to Remember will make any other one of his movies seem like shit. Maybe.

Otherwise, I can't even think of any romantic comedies off-hand that I've seen.

Wait, I just thought of one. 500 Days of Summer. It is, strictly-speaking, romantic and comedic, but I wouldn't exactly call it a romantic comedy. I still liked it a lot, though.

I'm one of six children, the only male. Ive been forced to watch MANY movies I wouldn't normally watch. But there are a few that stand out as having something for everyone.

Love Actually, Easy A, anything Adam Sandler are some of the best Ive seen.

It's odd, as far as movies go I usually hate romcom's(there are exceptions). But my favorite manga and anime are are romcom's. And I have a love for romantic VN's as well.
