I always enjoy playing the .Hack series mostly .Hack GU vol 1-3 and one day it occurred to me why doesn't CyberConnect2 actually make a MMORPG modeled after the .hack games. I mean it would work so well and might be popular to anyone who also plays and likes the .Hack series do you agree should there be a .Hack MMORPG why or why not?

They made a multiplayer one, but it was japanese psp only ofc.
The .hack games were another anime, for me, where the games are better than the actual show (Joining the shadowy cabal of Naruto and DBZ). Some actual character creation, let alone multiplayer, would really make something special.

Edit:Derp. Link wasn't the multiplayer one
(There's a Link fan translation. Not complete, but app. they have the main storyline. Never tried it myself http://www.dothackers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18285 )

I still have all of the english games, and I would still love to see an english/American version of //Fragment (the online game). I would also like to see an english version of //Link, which also only saw a Japanese release.

I never played the games. The anime game world gave me a real A Tale in the Desert vibe(speaking of deserts, a sandbox Dune MMO would be awesome as well.) The world had interesting visuals though, and I would enjoy it if they made it more sandbox like Desert rather than theme park as in the Old Republic or World of Warcraft. It would be more true to the source material, I feel. Plus, I hate theme park MMOs, and feel like they're not really true to the genre. Plus, with such a niche game outside the US, it's unlikely to be produced by a titan company with the money to burn.

I'm going to be a downer and say No. While the .Hack games are set in a MMO world, the strength comes from the single player story. You are the special one in the series. You are the only one who can stop the virus. You are the only one with the Data Drain ability. Thus, the games were able to have a story with a beginning, middle, and end even though you were playing in an MMO world. Turning the games into an actual MMO would take that away, just like what happened to The Elder Scrolls.

Now, adding in a co-op function? That would work. Something along the lines of Borderlands, where you can have a friend or two join you, but only if you have room in your party. If you're playing with the NPCs, then you'd have to send one of them home before your friend could join.

I have never played the games but after watching .//sign I don't even want to touch the franchise ever again. The only reason I kept coming back to sign was mostly the music and the mystery
...That doesn't pay off...
so anything to do with .hack I immediately look away because I got burned. so I have no Idea whether a .hack mmo would work or not but it would be safe to say that maybe you could just make "the world" the game in the series real, that might get some appeal I don't know though.

First off, I love dot Hack and many of its various stories, games, movies, and shows. I've enjoyed the games and will most likely track down and play all of the non-localized ones.

Having said that, I feel like they have already made dot Hack MMORPGs akin to the dot Hack titles.

The Final Fantasy MMORPGs have that fantasy feel, team building, and customization with gear and classes that is reminiscent of the dot Hack series. Also, the Monster Hunter series provides that scale of customization and awesomeness against impossible odds alone or as a team that is so definitive of the dot Hack series. Also, since they seem to be including armor and weapons from famous game icons (Link from the Legend of Zelda series), it's only a matter of time until the heroes of the dot Hack franchise get a little love and recognition.

At this point SOA is the new '.hack', so that's probably more likely.

I mean, isn't .Hack kind of, dead?

The World is actually kind of a terrible MMO though... It's more like the first Guild Wars or Phantasy Star Online in that there's a couple hub worlds and a bunch of "instanced" dungeons. I mean they're not really instanced but you'd only run into someone if they decide to use the exact same combination of words you used.

I'd like to see it, but most likely wouldn't have the time to play it... Still, I love the concept of .hack.
