As we know, it's generally expected that when a girl hits her teenage years she will begin to shave or otherwise remove the hair from her legs and armpits. My question to you is, as males, how would you percieve an adult woman who has hairy legs and such. Would you be comfortable with it and reserve judgement or would you find it strange or even repulsive?

Furthermore, would you yourself deign to regularly remove your hair if society demanded it?

If you are female, would you feel comfortable going out in public without removing this "unwanted" hair? Is it personal preference or social stigma which compels you to shave/wax/whatever? Please discuss.

haha...hmmm

somtimes I forget to shave my legs...though its not really noticible unless somone inspects them..which thankfully doesnt really happen in public..or work

one thing though is armpit hair....I couldnt stand not being able to get rid of it..uugghhhh

if it was somones choice I wouldnt judge them harshly (hell its not like we have a million other things to hate about ourselfs...you know you can get plastic surgery "down there"...yeah your privates might not look right aparently)

anyway I prefer being hairless..feels more "feminine" and less "cavewoman"

Ah, threads on preferences. This will go like every thread before it (i.e.. "Which cheese do you prefer?).

I don't ask my partner to because I care little, there are more important places on a woman if you ask me. I leave it up to her purview.

If my partner asked me to? I suppose I would, at least once. Isn't it all about pleasing each other in the end?

I disapprove of your poll's options so I will refrain from voting.

I shave every few days.
Although I suppose because I'm newly single I don't have to, LOL. I will though, I feel gross with hair all over me :/

I dunno, I'm a big fan of sleek legs so having a girlfriend with hairy legs would kinda weird me out. I'm just not a huge fan of hair on women save for their head. As for shaving my own hair, it'd be a challenge for my legs because those motherfuckers are hairy, but I already shave my face and below the waist area so I don't think it'd bother me too much

Eh...I don't see the issue.

I do think it's rather creepy that there's an expectation that people should shave various bits, and that something wrong if they don't.

I like to shave my armpits and legs so I can wear short sleeves or short legged stuff. However, I am creeped the eff out by societal demands that I remove hair from my pubic area so I can look like a little girl.

I also laugh at the notion that females who dont shave are somehow `Dirty` but men aren't dirty because -wellshutupthatswhy.

I used to have a boyfriend who shaved his chest (needlessly, he didnt even get chest hair), I wasn't much bothered. But I do like to have a boyfriend with a shaven face, more out of the fact that it gives me excema on my face if I get scraped by beard.

I think its a bit harsh to expect a woman to shave her entire body every day, but big hairy beavers.....yuck.

I work with a guy who actually has a fetish for that sort of thing.

Yeah, sorry, but seeing a woman with hairy pits and legs is a big fat turn off.

Double standards be damned.

Yeah, I find women with hairy legs and armpits extremely unattractive. I don't really mind the pubic area being hairy, though.

I'd happily shave my body if I were asked to by work or a girlfriend (although I'd be pretty upset about shaving my pubes).

I don't get to wear dresses in public, you don't get to have body hair. Simple as that.

Well when you've been with someone for a while, it's only normal that they don't have as strict a code in appearance management. I know I don't shave as often as I should and I know my fiancee has times where she just can't be arsed, and I'm fine with that.

I don't know if this is just an American thing or not, but what the hell is the deal with women shaving everything, if you know what I mean? Your society condemns the sexualisation of children but then proceeds to make the fun zones of women ressemble prepubescent girls.

Strange indeed.

As a man, I believe to shave your legs is far too feminine.
That's the same with piercing, hairstyle and attitude
I'm probably far to old fashioned in the belief of what I as a man should look and act like, but that's just how I am
So I would never shave my legs nor my armpits, but I do prefer shaved women, hairy legs and armpits just aren't feminine, oh here I go again with the stereotyping :p

I primarily do it because I feel I have to, except for my armpits because leaving that alone would just be gross.

I do wish that I didn't have to shave my legs so often and that women's razors didn't become dull so damn quickly.

Though I do get annoyed from time to time by the fact that society expects women to be almost hairless while men can be as hairy as they please. However that's, once again, caused by the shaving so often thing. It makes me wish that some of those "Don't shave/wax for weeks!" advertisements were true.

I think you're forgetting shaved arms. I try not to be shallow but once about two years ago I realized a girl had long dark arm hairs. It's one of those things that until you see someone who refuses to do it, you don't see how much of a difference it makes. The hair was easily visible across the room and yeah I was a bit uncomfortable with it. Though perhaps it was a case of genetics for her, as I don't think arm hair comes in dark and thick on women usually.

If legs turn out the same way her arms did, which I don't think I've seen a woman slip up on shaving-wise to see the difference, I'm not ashamed to say I'd be unsettled by it. I don't think anyone has the moral high ground to say it wouldn't bother them if they've never seen it before, because I really thought I was apathetic to that until it confronted me in daily life.

As for myself, it's too much of a hassle. I'm going mountain-man for the winter, and not in the ruggedly appealing way. I do believe people think I'm trying to improve my sex appeal, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I know exactly what I look like, it's purely for body temperature.

Thanks for saying that more succinctly than I could have.

Generally, it's something I do (as a woman) for others, because I couldn't give a shit what my body looks like. I live in Perth, Australia though and it's really hot, so if your armpits and legs aren't shaved, people REALLY notice.

I lived for 2 years as a nun - they don't shave anywhere except their head. Therefore I'm pretty ok with being natural. Now I'm married though, I do take into account the feelings of my husband.

I would be prepared to shave or possibly wax my chest and armpits and possibly my legs if I get really bored and want to see what it feels like. Oh and you can add me to the 'Hairless' boat, find it a turn-off when the have hair.

Strange and repulsive, check.

Yep, no problem if I had to, hairy 'people' in general have gone out of fashion as of the last two decades, and I'd only do it once everyone else had to, too, that way the economy would become accustomed to it (individually and otherwise).

male here
on women: legs/extremities in general - don't really care; at least the women i know have fairly thin hair (vellus hair) on their extremities, that's no bother at all - if they choose to remove it, fine with me as well

men: uuuhm... kinda-sorta-double standard, eh? as men aren't of my interest, i don't really care; if my GF asked me to remove hair on my legs, i guess i'd do it though - it doesn't bother me to have it, but it won't hurt to not have it, so what gives?

both
pubic hair: kinda-sorta a turn off. i feel much "cleaner" without it. also, munching through a sheep during oral intercourse isn't half as sexy as it may sound ^^ so i welcome it if she is well-trimmed (not necessarily completely "naked" "down there"; then she looks like a little girl, and i feel like a pedophile... thanks, but no, thanks)

armpits: the function of axillary hair is to smell (ok, to easier spread hormones/pheromones, but the result is: it smells), and smelling i don't like, so it has to go, both on me and women. again, for obvious reasons i don't care about other guys. unless it's summer and they sweat and don't shower regularly and they stand in front of me at the train/bus/line/whatever. eww.
