Portal even though it gets a bit monotonous and boring in the middle but picks up in the end cause I found ALL Half Life 2 games boring (In my opinion the weapons sucked except for the 2xshotgun and the game generally aged horribly)sure there were some fun battles but other newer games far surpass them. The whole Half Life 2 experience made me very distrustful of reviews and Hype. The only thing that truly justified my purchase of the Orange Box were Half Life 2 mods specifically Empires probably because I get bored playing non tactical shooters I find it a lot better than the included Team Fortress 2.

I looked through a bit of footage from Haze. It looked like crap in comparison. Lamaar the headcrab had better character animation than those yella soldiers, nevermind story or voice-acting.

hmmmm probably HL1 first, jus because that was one of the first games that i ever got obsessed about, i long for the days of roaming black mesa again, plus u gotta pay respects to the godfather of modern good games haha

then HL2, basically because when i started it, i cried tears of joy when i saw the G-Man, then when i finished it, i pretty much shit myself and was liek OMG OMG OMG OMG this was AWESOME!!!!!!!!.

then Portal becasue it made me do the same as the above game, and i say it everytime i play it.

the episodes were amazing, great plots and all that jazz, but a lil too short, plus they cant beat the original HL2

Has to be the original Half-Life. It was my first Half-Life experience and bought it when it first came out. The mere fact that you could have allies (security 'barneys') was something pretty damn good back then. Also the entire intro sequence on the train going to work etc. before all the action kicked off was really immersive.

Plus imo the marines in that game have way better AI than the Combine of new. I remember darting out from behind a truck container, took a few shots at some marines before darting back behind the container to smugly wait for them to come rushing blindly round the corner into the path of my shotgun. They didn't. Instead they threw a grenade on my position. In response to this I naturally turned and ran back to the previous area to avoid the blast. Then after a blink of an eye I discovered they had flanked me, killed me and so had successfully 'flushed' me out. First time in any shooter that had happened to me. I was shocked.

Xen was a bit silly though.

Well, I had to vote for Portal, there's something about that game that makes me want to play it again and again...

However, I remember playing the first half life and it's very hard to compare with the atmosphere in that game. The level 'questionable ethics' has always stuck in my mine, where you find yourself in a sector of the lab where the scientists have been imprisoning and testing upon all the Xen creatures, was a great section.

I'm lucky enough to own all of those games so I think i can give a fair opinion of which i prefer. Persoanlly I say Portal. It was an infinitly more inspired game than the Half-life series, with some truly brilliant dialogue and mind bending puzzles. The ridiculosly awesome ending song is brilliant. Although now i think about it HL1 was pretty god damn good...no...i still prefer portal.

Half Life 2 because that's where the whole Orwellian alien-dictated future came from. It's gritty and was so far different to the first. I can't see people voting any other way.
I enjoyed the sequel very much, but for me the original takes the cake. HL1 and HL2 are very different games, but there was something about the tension and the gameplay of the first that still manages to be intriguing and fun today.

In saying that though, I loved all of them bar Episode One, which was still good, but it lacked drive, it was too much of the same.

I honestly can't pick.

Half Life was revolutionary.
Half Life 2 was even more revolutionary.
The episodes are really developing the story.
Portal was awesomely interwoven with the half life universe.

It all comes together to make pure awesome.
