Alright I've finally gotten to buying and downloading Half-Life... which I have never played (I'm a sinner, I know). But the questions is... which one should I play?

Valve has 2 versions of the original Half-Life. One is the "original", and the other is a "remastered" version using their later Source engine. So... which one should I play?

Well yeah, I was going to do that. I bought the Half-Life complete pack. I was just wondering if there's really anything that they changed that would give a different experience.

They're pretty synonymous. Half-Life: Source just looks a bit better because it's on a newer Source engine and changed a few things from the original. The most obvious change is the water graphics, but really they're basically the same game.

Well I love the original Half-Life, but for some reason I just don't enjoy playing Half-Life 2 at all. I'm not sure if the engine is actually the reason for this, but the non-remastered version gets my vote.

I'm pretty certain the remastered version will have greatly improved graphics though, so if that's important to you, go for that one.

Play the original because there seem to be literally zero mods for HL:Source, and Half Life without mods is like peanut butter without jelly.

I think Source, because its engine would be slightly more optimised for a modern PC.

Though theres nothing wrong with playing a 16-year-old game if it works.

Yeah, Source only has prettier water, some physics, ragdolls and maybe slightly different lighting or something.

Big downside is that HL:S doesn't auto-save. Ever. Bind quicksave to the left mouse button!
