You know what is perfect? The search button. Would have brought up around a hundred topics on Halo 3 alone.

Where's the never played option? (Just no interest not hatered of it.)

Oh a question for anyone: Does Master Chief have an actual name? I've heard there are books that add to the story og Halo but I've only ever heard of him referred to as Master Chief.
For those who actually don't know and care (which is very likely to be no one, but I'm covering my ass) I'll place the answer in a spoiler box.

His name is John, it's said in the book many times, but is also said at the end of Halo 3

As for the OP, this has been WAAAAY to overdone (just like saying it's been WAAAAY to overdone). But I still may as well give my input.

It was a good game. Not as good as Halo 2, and not even close to as good as the original, but good. My reasoning behind this is that
A)the gameplay, though a bit cookie cutter, is still fun and fairly well balanced
B)the story is great when you read the books and all the stuff on the side (though, as a game, still holds its own on a mediocre level)
C)the music is one of the absolute best video game soundtracks of all time, IMO.

So please... leave the poor fella alone from now on. He's had his day in the sun, and although he'll be coming back out for a while with Wars, ODST, and Chronicles, he's basically done.

I honestly hated halo 3. It was definitely one of the worst games I've ever played.
I like to think that even when someone doesn't like something, they are capable of appreciating the simple fact that there is quality present. I absolutely HATE several notable bands (Coldplay for example) but I can at least recognize their musical talent. I abhor the final fantasy series but that doesn't make them bad games.

Halo 3 is, in my book at any rate, far from a bad game. It is, however, nothing more than a safe game. Every feature present in the game (notable features at any rate) has been found in many other games - the mechanics have been tested and proven effective. Yes, it looks better than Halo 2, but it more or less plays the same. The style and pace of the game (multiplayer) have never been my cup of tea, but I am capable of recognizing the simple fact that millions of people have logged countless hours playing, so there is quite clearly some level of quality in it's execution. Not every game is going to push the envelope, not every game is going to be incredibly original and not every game will suit my tastes. But in spite of that I can at least appreciate the fact that there is a quality game here.

It's not perfect, but then again perfection is unattainable. And worse, perfection is subject to the interpretation of the masses, meaning even if you somehow manage to achieve perfection for some small demographic, other people will quickly point out their perceived flaws.

Um, Duh? The Halo series was always good, just not triple A awesome. SOme anti-Halo fanboys want to make it seem like it sucked monkey balls, but it didn't. Of course on the flip side tons of Halo fanboys think it is the new Christ risen to save the gaming world. Neither are right. It is good, no more, no less.

Alright. It's been two years since it's release. GET OVER IT!
Everyone and their grandmother has gotten on a forum and complained about how H3 was over hyped. And it's worse here because people watch Yahtzee rant on about it and think "Gee maybe if I copy him down to the word I'll look like a cooler gamer". Frankly, I don't think H3 was over hyped. The only over-hyping was done by YOU. It was done by YOU because you're the one who googled it ever half hour to see whether or not your favorite weapon would be nerfed.
The only hyping on the media was the same amount as any other new game. God knows gears of war had more hyping, I couldn't turn on my TV without being attacked by "mad world". I liked Halo 3, it wasn't the best game but I'll be damned if I didn't and don't enjoy the multilayer. If you didn't like the first 2 halo games you have no right to go on a forum and say how much halo three sucks, because it's the same game with a slightly improved multilayer and wrapping up the story. Now if you want to complain about a game and have people agree with you complain about EVE online.

Sorry, I know it's a bit off topic, but I'm going to have to refute that. Gears was somewhat hyped, but Halo 3 had the most extensive advertising campaign since Star Wars and Harry Potter. You may not have seen it, but trust me, Halo 3 was by FAR hyped more than Gears. You know a game is being overly advertised when gas stations are selling unsanctioned "Halo 3 Taco deals" and when a 7/11 is selling the freakin game. (I'm not saying that happened all over, but it did happen around where I live.)

Halo 3 was one of the most overhyped things of all time, not just within the gaming industry.

Halo 3 was GOOD, okay? Very good, in fact. Since it's release I've heard almost constant criticism of it, so I don't think the majority people do class it as perfect. It's well designed, solid to play and great fun in multiplayer, so what's the problem with it? Just leave it alone, because mindlessly bashing it got old ages ago.

Too many people get hung up on things not being different enough or innovative enough - who really cares? The question is: is it fun? You won't find too many original ideas within genres anymore. It's tough to do.

Please, before you all go off with lists of original/different games; I don't care. My point is: Halo 3 is a well done game with amazing multiplayer that millions love. Just because a handful of us don't like it, it doesn't make it any less awesome.
You, sir, have hit the nail right on the head.

I personally became bored of Halo 3 around about the time my friends stopped playing it, after they were gone I was left with a bog standard shooter occupied by hordes of hardcore MLG pricks and 12 year olds with attitude problems.

It's functional. It isn't great, it isn't pretty and it isn't overly rewarding but you can at least play it for an hour without slowly begining to despise the human race (unlike FEAR).
