Yes they should, because I think it would be non-stop awesome
No I don't think they should because I think it would ruin the franchise, and piss of fanboys and probably not very faithful to the games/books
Arrrghhhh my brain

Maybe a Halo story, not about Master Chief
Like a Reach movie?
[Fuds for thought]
are you talking about the game reach? or the book reach?

the book is ALL about master chief and his rise to being the beast he is.

OT: if they did it like landfall or just made it a decent popcorn movie, i would be very satisfied.

Then I guess I'd be talking about the game
But I think a movie based on how Master Chief becomes awesome-sauce would make for an awesome movie also

in the book, they have a part where he is still a kid, and lets just say he is a rapist when it comes to playing king of the hill

so yes, i would greatly pay to see a master chief movie (as long as they include all the other important spartans)

I was initially disappointed that the Halo movie fell apart, but then District 9 ended up being fookin awesome.

Would still like to see a Halo movie though. I'm always in the mood for an epic large-scale war in space.

I would have to say no. Movies based off of games rarely turn out to be good.
We should ask "why" instead of just going with "Oh well, it didn't work the first time so we shouldn't touch it".

What makes game-based movies so awful? Many games present a formidable setting and set of characters, basically the same elements most successful movies have. I can understand the difficulty in terms of following the same protagonist from the games, but does it really have to be so? You can always have a completely different protagonist that fits well into the series, and maybe mention the protagonist from games a few times or have a surprise entrance once...

Bleh.
It's the same reason every movie adapted from another medium usually ends up like shit, Hollywood writers and directors feel they are superior to every other creator in the world and make changes to the material for the sake of making changes. Take comic movies for example, it's only recently that they have made movies based on them that are good, and for the most part they are made by fans of the source material. On the other end of the spectrum we have the Transformers films that were written by two guys so out of touch with the material they were asking for help on character motivations (not to mention names) on Transformers fan websites and were mixing all the different generations into a mishmash that worked less than the final product.

They give these projects to people with zero interest in the materiaol and only care how many zeros are at the end of their paycheck and how many sequels they are guaranteed. Really, I think for things like video game and comic adaptations they need to start looking outside of the A list and let some new guys in with the passion and respect needed for the movies to be good, not only in the eyes of the critics but to the fans who pay to see them.

Nah.

Take the money & put it into the development of Episode 3, I'm sure a lot more people would be happier.
How about they just halt episode 3 its getting pretty silly.

While in theory I support this, I would support it more if they took the route of the books. Following the SPARTANS through their training, early missions, prequel stuff, before the main movie.

The other major problem is that the MC doesn't really lend himself to being a movie character. He'd need more personality, and while again this could be lifted from the books, it wouldn't impress the people who only played the games.

Maybe they should do a movie set in the Halo verse, but not following MC.

HALO is everything awful about modern video games. Had it not been made, then the words "video game" wouldn't be synonymous with mindless FPS games being played by a socially-awkward teenager with energy drink cans littering the floor of his room.

Of course it could be much worse, you could be playing MW2 and talking about how "cash" the recent UFC was...

The only person in Hollywood I would trust to do a Halo movie is Niel Blomkamp. It would be a complete disaster if anyone else tried. It just shocks me how ignorant some of the gaming community is about Halo fans. The so called "fans" people always moan about are casual players who just play for the next big thing. As soon as they find something they like better they move on.

Just look at Call of Duty.

Halo is more than just a gaming franchise now. While the individual games have never had the strongest story. As a franchise it all goes together quite nicely. Not all stories have to have a deep meaning behind it all.

Peter Jackson should stay away from this trainwreck. Get Michael Bay on it. Epic battles? Ok...maybe Ridley Scott. I mean, it's not like the Halo series is renowned for brilliant dialogue, deep characters and emotional attachment to said characters. That's my opinion anyway. SO, if they should do it right, they might as well make it spectacular. I'd be...slightly happy.
have you read the books?
honestly, no. I guess my opinion is a tad biased yeah?
Yeah, just a bit. The games you are correct about. Theyre good plot wise, in my opinion, but the characters arent really connection-worthy. The books are different though. They add whole new dimensions to the characters and theiir feelings and emotions and motives. Sergeant Johnsons backstory. The attack on Harvest. Captain Keyes fighting the flood. How John escaped Halo. Stuff like that. they really flesh out the characters.

Yes it should; I think there is a lot of potential there.

That said I'd prefer to see a Gears movie, but I am a bit of a fanboy of that series.
