Do you think Bungie or Microsoft or another company should make a Halo RPG. If so, which company?

It would be good, but in terms of weapons, armour and enemies there wouldn't much of a variation

I'm not entirely convinced that Halo would work all that well as an RPG. I mean if you got to pick your race (for me this would obviously mean Sangheili) and what period in the universe history then it might be kinda cool. But Bungie are ending it after Reach anyway and after that who knows where the series might go.
It could go to the RPG section and while I don't deny there could be some good things going for it if it did, I also still have my doubts that it would work.

There's a big enough world in the Halo 'verse to accommodate an RPG, but I don't think Bungie should be the ones behind it. Better it fall into the hands of Obsidian or BioWare, someone with experience in RPGs and the ability to make one worth playing.

A Halo RPG would most likely be similar to Fallout, but with first person shooter combat and a highly dumbed down RPG side

Well, maybe exploring the universe after the events of Halo 3 would be nice, I wouldn't want it to be a flop. Halo is a FPS all the way.

I would think it would be milking the franchise to a point. Plus, what real RPG features could it possibly use? It can't be like Mass Effect since Humans probably don't have many worlds left. It can't be like Oblivion or Borderlands because a Spartan or a Marine won't be running out into an open world when they are suppose to help defend the base.

The only form of an RPG I can think of would be like in Final Fantasy where the player controls a group and has them travel along a linear path while fighting enemies along the way and even that wouldn't work so well since Spartans can regenerate health.

In short, no, I'd rather see Halo stay the same and keep it's place as one of the better console FPSs.

Halo has a unique position in the world. It was a superior FPS that was kicked off it's throne that it had owned for years, and the developers response for the future of Halo strangely wasn't just "make a better FPS."

It seems that Halo, more than any other game, has been branching out trying to find another niche instead of purely keeping to what it does best. Could MS be trying to strike gold like Blizzard did when they switched Warcraft from RTS to MMO? Probably, but I don't think the transition from FPS to anything could go too well. Their RTS was lackluster, the MMO doesn't look too promising so far, and I'm not sure just how far they're planning to go.

Though transition to RPG might work, if it's done well, such as how Borderlands or Fallout tried to merge the two together. The FPS/RPG genre is still a fledgling, and hasn't found it's perfect slot yet. The definitive FPS/RPG killer app just hasn't come yet, and maybe they can either put one out, or make a stepping stone.

Just a note: While Fallout has been a phenomenal success, it's more RPG than FPS, also, the purely single player aspect takes some away from the FPS' most popular pastime: multiplayer. Borderlands is great, but it gets rather draining over time, because, again, no competitive multiplayer.

I say an FPS RPG, like what i consider Mass Effect, would work well for many people.

Definatly wouldn't work well as a MMORPG... but i don't think anyone even thought that would ever be a good idea

They would have to change the way weapons work though, and the armour system... heck, they would have to re-do a lot of the game in order for it to "kinda work for some people". but most people are happy with it just being an FPS, and like what furburt said "RTS didn't work either". well, in truth, it did, a few of my friends are fans of halo wars. but overall, most people who played halo didn't think it was a good idea. it would probably sell in a similar fashion, many people are unsure and don't bother after a demo, others buy it then don't enjoy it as much as they'd hope, and a few buy it and really enjoy it.

How can you ever..ever.. make a RPG of halo? The characters in it just have as much depth as a story about an empty dvd box of das boot in the desert. Made much sence...? Guess not, but that is only to enforce what I said about making it an RPG. (... let the sh!t storm begin :p)
That doesn't really stop any other RPG developer, does it?

Touche on that one. The only difference between a RPG (not talking about sequels here) and a already existing non RPG, in this regard being halo :p is that the RPG needs time and, if good, makes you relate to the character. Now, if master chief suddenly decides to go to be a buddhist, I still really wouldn't give a rats arse because he allready could be, for all I care.

It could work... Roleplaying as a character in the series, or master chief, might work, but it would be an awkward shift for a series that has solely relied on FPS. Plus, it probably wouldn't have multiplayer, and RPGs are known to last at least 10-20 hours, usually more than that. FPS games can be whittled away in maybe 5 hours.

It would be like if an FPS series all of a sudden made an RTS series.
Or if an RTS series all of a sudden made an MMORPG, and then became the most successful MMO ever made.

Hmm...

A Halo RPG? Yeah it would probably sell, it would more than likely be crap though. But hey, at least that sounds better than an RTS.
