That would probably not be a good idea. The only way I could see this working is going back in time before the Covenant found humans or after the war ended. Anything in between would most likely not work very well.

it could be great. you could be part of a sparten squad. the rpg elements will be coosing your class and leveling your team. it would have mission set up that is about destroying covenit base and retaking colines. i think this could work if given to a good developer

I really don't think it would work. I mean, the majority of Halo fans are shooter fans, right? There's probably a decently sized overlap of Halo fans and RPG fans, but even if it was made, I don't know how it would work. I think it would come down to a watered down Mass Effect rip-off with a Halo skin.

No, I don't think it would really be a smart move unless they'll be going for a Mass Effect clone in the Halo universe. But then it won't really be an RPG, now, will it?

Seeing how well a Mario RPG worked, I have no doubts that a Halo RPG, if done right, could work out just fine.

The Sonic RPG was adequate too.

All flagship franchises should get RPGs.

The concept might get worn out if that happens. Although I wouldn't be entirely opposed to the idea.

I could see an RPG based in the Halo universe, as long as they had the right developers.
Personally, I find one of the more fascinating part of the Halo story to be the humans that crashland on Halo, and had to carve out a living for themselves on the alien world.
If they added back all the critters that were cut out of Halo in the early development stage, then it would be even more interesting.

it works like this:
hardcore Halo fans hate RPGs
and
hardcore RPG fans hate Halo
there is nothing about this that sounds like a good idea.

Halo is a great fps, and should stay that way. Halo Reach looks amazing and after its released they should let the series die on a high note.

You know Bethesda could pull it off as well they could just take the novel Halo Evolutions or have the battle of Harvest because we are getting Reach from Bungie even thou they fucked it up.

Bethesda games are all about exploring. Though Halo games usually DO have great inviroments, I don't think they'd fit Bethesdas style.

I get the feeling that if Bungie wanted to create a Halo RPG, it would pretty much end up like most other RPG games in that you would have to start as a kid, go through all the Spartan training and get used to all the drug treatments to boost your skillset and abilities, run some basic missions minus the armor and the AI until you worked your way through the game to unlock the better equipment. Sounds pretty cookie-cutter to me from that angle.

Admittedly, they could do some different things with the story and whatnot, but essentially the gameplay would mirror a few other games. I could see it playing out similar to like Rainbow Six where they would give you a squad to command and as you achieve objectives you would unlock access to better equipment. As far as the story goes, I think we all know how it turns out so that leaves out a lot of the surprises. They could try and throw you a curveball every once in a while, but if they attempted to put in some "morality" system, the game would ultimately suck. We all know that Master Chief couldn't be evil, so what would be the point?

As a fan of Halo, I must say NO. Even an Oblivion-style RPG would be no better than half-decent. If we get into turn-based stuff, then no way.

It would have to be modified but it could be fun. Anyone remember the Doom RPG? Yes, before you say that was just a small thing designed for cell phones. With the right developers I'm sure it could be fun, but probably unnecessary.
