Poll: Has a game ever made you cry?

I've cried from frustration many times when I was younger... But I don't think I've cried as an emotional reaction to a game... I was close however when in Fallout

The Overseer threw me out of the vault... But the sense of sadness was overcome by a sense of joy when my character pulled out a gun and shot the old bastard in half

at the end of GTAIV.(Why did it have to be at his wedding?!) Despite his obsessions with wanting to go bowling and drinking every 10 minutes, it just sucked not having him around.

Huh? I thought Kate died at the end.

It depends on which mission you decide to do at the end.

If you take the deal, Roman dies (Which is what I did), If you do the revenge mission, Kate dies.

Well in Halo 3 when Johnson dies and in Gears of War 2 when Dom finds his wife...........

They make me feel sorry for the characters, but not cry....

But I guess the saddest a game has ever made me was when you see the nubers "117" engraved on the memorial in Halo 3. I don't know why it made me sad. It just did.

Exactly...god, why did epic have to put in that shitty side story about Dom looking for his wife? The bad ass factor of Gears 2 dropped so much because of that

What they did with Dom to make him go look for his wife wasn't the worst thing ever done in a game, but since Dom never even mentioned his wife in Gears 1, it kinda comes out of the blue, making you say to yourself: "Wait, was there a Gears of War 1.5 that i missed?"

Epic Games should've given us more warning is all.

Aye made me sad as well, but it didn't make me cry. I guess it's cause we dont really get to see alot of Tai.

Although not a game, I always cry when I hear the song 'Can I Buy These Shoes?' on the radio during the Christmas season. As for games, none have ever made me cry for the sadness factor, mostly I cried because of how horrible the game was. If I could pick a game for the unexpected plot twist, I would have to pick Star Ocean: Til the End of Time, but I don't want to spoil it.

A few of the little, emotional stories (A Thousand Years of Dreams) in Lost Odyssey made me tear up a little, and one made me actually cry a bit.

With the overall tone of Gears 2 being ass kicking and testosterone, it just really seems out of place to have something like a sappy dramatic story with one of the characters. And you're right too. It does seem really out of the blue.

Suikoden when Gremio bit it to save the Young Master's life. Just a right out touching moment mixed with sadness. Sacrifice and martyrdom out of loyalty and love. If you haven't played it you've missed out on the first great Chinese story.

I just thought it was touching that you relived a day in a better childhood.
And i also genuinely felt sad leaving Rose behind when i left that place through the gate.
"Where are you going?"
"No, don't go!"
"Don't leave me again"

Sounds a bit weird written down but it hit me hard.

when I was playing FF7 7 for a while, focusing solely on this game, got to the end of the game and sephiroth kept kicking my a** so I decided to stop, pressed eject on my ps2 so I could protect the disk since my little brothers play it sometimes, and started to hear a grinding sound, and out pops my disk somehow cut into thirds........

that was the closest I ever came to crying over a video game and it still didn't make me cry, more like a very uncomfortable yell of agony/pain/sorrow that lasted for close to an hour.

Actually, I have cried in frustration a few times ever since I got my first console back in '85, but very few games have made me cry with emotion. Recently "Yakuza 2" managed that, since it has a long and dramatic and quite sad death scene. The ending had me choked up as well but not actually crying, though it was still awesome in so many ways.
I don't think I've ever played any games as cinematic as the Yakuza ones, and I can really recommend them. There are many heartwrenching moments, but just as many (if not more) uplifting and sometimes even humorous ones. The Yakuza 2 ending has got to be the most gripping and engaging game cinematic I have ever seen...made even stronger by that at the very end it cuts away to the credits while "Silent Night" plays, leaving you in suspense and/or disbelief. Luckily, the aftermath IS shown after the credits. Be patient
