Well all my interest in Mass Effect: Andromeda disappeared into thin air the moment they said they had a "colonization system".
That doesn't sound bad in itself, in fact it sounds pretty interesting, but it brought a major deja-vu to when they announced DA:Inquisitions features.
All of them sounded interesting and fun to play around with and all of them turned out to be shallow, barely working and sometimes even actively working against each other to create a big mess of game systems.
And it's just like the way they announced DAIs features. A vaguely described system, that sounds pretty cool on paper, but doesn't even remotely explain how and if it will work.
With DAI i got the feeling that the game was designed to incorporate features that sound good in marketing, instead of features that are fun to play with. And i get the very same feeling from MEA.

"Dead Rising 3 has the same time limit things as Dead Rising 2."

Instant lost sale.

Ooh, mine is so "Early Access." Want me to buy your game? Well then I better not see this in your info: "This game is in early access."

no sir. Not happening. Why would I buy an unfinished game for the same price as a complete one (insert obvious joke about Ea/Ubisoft/Bethesda here) Especially since there isn't a whole lot to guarantee that the game gets finished.

But Dex, The Hive and Necro look so interesting. Well Dex is out of early access now.

I understand though. It would really annoy me seeing my money go to something that was never completed.

I once was interested in the Deponia series, since they look so animated and I haven't played a traditional point and click adventure game in quite some time. Since they frequently go on sale at one point I consulted reviews to see if they would be a worthwhile purchase. The description of the protagonist in the Escapist's review killed all my interest in the game:

"[The protagonist is a jerk.] And make no mistake, he's not a misunderstood scoundrel who does his best but always seems to end up on the wrong side of the right thing. He's selfish, egomaniacal and a legitimate, all-around dick. "

The price tag.

The way gaming is right now, there's no way to avoid your bugbears. Whether it's DRM, endless DLC, short campaigns, always online, bugs, whatever, chances are your game has hit one branch on the bullshit tree on the way down. And none of these things make it an instant no for me. They just make my yes more conditional. I'll spend 50 cents on any piece of shit that'll wear out it's welcome quickly, because 50 cents ain't a lot. Some of the cheaper greenlight or early access titles can be a laugh for cheap. But I'm always averse to paying full AAA (Especially since that's more in Australia). And every dodgy thing, or thing I dislike, just pushes it further down my queue.

I'll buy a multiplayer only shooter with no server browser or latency display. But not for over a hundred bucks. Call me when it's more like half that, if the population's still there.

- "It will be a (temporary) console exclusive" for AAA-title - automatic no-buy even if it becomes multiplatform later
- "In our non-free multiplayer non-MMO game you'll have to grind through levels to unlock stuff" - automatic no buy
- "It's published by EA" - automatic no buy
- "No character creation in our RPG" - serious doubts about buying
- "It's a reboot of the franchise" - serious doubts about buying

Sure, hearing that those bastards were making FFVII episodic basically demanded I not touch the thing until maybe all episodes are in a bundle, at a discount and only if it got decent reviews.

Always online for single player games also get to me. The forward bases story for MGSV means I haven't bought the game yet.

Requires an Origin account also nixes a game for me. Mass Effect 1 and 2 were great games. Don't know what everyone has against Mass Effect 3 and likely won't. Not because of it being DRM, but because I don't trust EA.

No one comment has ever single-handedly killed my desire to buy a game, but hearing the phrase "customizable loadouts" with regards to Halo 4 nearly did it. Absolutely the opposite of what I want out of an arena shooter.

Edit: I thought of a few:
-always online
-day-1 DLC
-microtransactions (This one has to be in context: I don't mind them in a MOBA like LoL, but in a full-price game, they're absolutely unforgivable. Especially when they give a competitive advantage.)
-streamlined (This is one of those things that seems like it should be a good idea, but it almost never is. Almost every time, reducing the complexity makes a game worse. See: Supreme Commander the gradual decay of Mass Effect, Civ V, etc. The only positive example I can think of is Warcraft 3 being better than Warcraft 2.)

"Multiplayer Focused"
"30FPS locked" (Unless it's an RPG or something, but still a bummer)
"Only on PS4/XBO/Uplay"
"Day-1 story DLC"
and "Microtransactions" are typically killers.

Other things don't so much completely put me off but do give me pause are
"Episodic"
"Streamlined"
"Cinematic"
Depending on the source of the comment, "progressive" (not that I'm not sympathetic to some causes, but when it's in the billing it tends to be hamfisted and come at the expense of the rest of the game rather than actually being part of a good narrative)
And "Kickstarter" (Sadly)

Trust me, It's agonizing having to wait. Especially when a EA (no not that one) title gets a lot of coverage Like Darkest Dungeons. Or when certain games hit early that I don't even understand why like Trine 3.

But hey, it really helps my wallet. Cuz by the time those games are fully released I've forgotten about them

Single words or phrases have done it actually.

Dead Space 3: "Microtransactions"

Many many games: "Broken"

For other games, like Just Cause 3, it took a lot more. I WANTED to love that game, really did. I'm convinced that it's not worth it now though, and it took a lot more than one comment.

Oh, I was browsing some games today and I remembered what gets me away from any game immediately: "monthly subscription". No. I will not pay the price of entire better games monthly to your shitty MMO. No.

Oh yeah! All the usual suspects have been mentioned. Online only, Must go through Uplay, yadda yadda. I have some just for me though:
Like when I heard that Super Smash Brothers for Wii U was drawing inspiration from Brawl, the shit one with so many game play issues and where everyone feels nerfed! Yeah, couldn't wait for that.
If you haven't already, I HIGHLY advise that you check out Project M. After 6+ years of development, it's become the most balanced and fun SSB version ever made. TL;DR - They took Brawl and uncrapified it. Just the fact alone that they completely ripped out stupid ****ing random tripping is amazing.

OT: Some more phrases that immediately make me say, "No."

I appreciate it, I really do, but I've checked out Project M awhile ago and it isn't what me and my friends are looking for.

I think there still isn't a PAL version yet, plus we're not going to be buying more Wii's and Brawls for several reasons. Unfortunately, I don't believe they're ever going to work on it anymore - http://projectmgame.com/en/news/project-m-pal-and-ntsc-j

Someone told Jim Sterling that Square Enix plans to make all future games episodic, & that they're using Star Wars & FF7 to get people used to it, because they know they'll sell.
Well fuck. So much for buying more Square Enix games. .... oh fucking hell if they ruin Kingdom Hearts 3.

I'll admit that it's been a minute since I've played Melee to give it an evaluation, and that I'm biased just because of all of the extra characters and everything alone, but I can definitely say that Brawl was ass, and that Smash 4 is significantly a better game than it (except for the lower level of single player content, though that's made up for in a better online), between making all of the characters stronger and more balanced than they were, and tightening up a lot of the mechanics being used. I do need to go back and give Melee another go around now that I'm halfway decent at Smash in general, but between Brawl and Smash 4, there's absolutely no question that Brawl was garbage, and Smash 4's definitely avoided the bulk of it's mistakes.

And just seeing the covers of Metroid: Other M that they were showing off before it's release said enough for me.
... I wish I could get what MOM did out of my head. Hell, that game was the opposite of this situation: I'd heard that they combined Metroid with Team Ninja, and was immediately sold. Then I found the gameplay to be average and that they turned Samus into a *****.

Oh, also:

So I got some bad news and some good news. Bad news is you're very right. Project M was shut down by the idiots at Nintendoh and a PAL version of Project M is unlikely to surface. Or at least, not for a while.

HOWEVER

If you have a spare 360 controller laying around, you can get a specific version [https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/3f781bcaf4a8403da582afb676ae2bd3995e477d/] of the Dolphin emulator and a copy of Project M 3.6 Netplay Edition [https://mega.nz/#!rZlSHRRQ!LJsnsrjPXEKwCgN9yOsS1wkuqNfFtoyYBlCoqP0LJL0] and be right on your merry way. :D

OK, so it's a little more complicated than that but I'll PM you the rest so you're good to go.
