Its the last word you want to say anywhere near a female.
They really do dislike it and I don't blame them at all.
You say what now?

Why would WOMEN, of all people, hate the word ****? It's a synonym for vagina is it not? Surely men would feel more intimidated by it? A fair amount don't take kindly to being referred to as a pussy, so **** must be worse? Right?

Most people don't take any offence to swearing once they get past 12 years of age. If you use it past that age you offten come across as just annoying, rather then insulting.

Calling a girl '****' is like calling her a *****, only multiplied by a thousand. But I do see your logic. I hate that word more than any other swear word, personally.

None of them really work. Once I truly hate someone, I bite my thumb at them.
(that's an expression, look it up.)
That's pretty hilarious. Not in a good way though.

I think **** is probably the most offensive word to the general population, they hear it and flip out. You can say baby punching machine but **** will make them flip out. Oh well.

I think most swear words have lost their edge. Even f bombs do nothing anymore. It's so commonplace to hear them (which is kind of sad really).

I know quite a few girls I know really dislike that word, but other than that, not too many people seem to care. I know most people use it like any other swear word.

Recently my friend mentioned to me that the word c*nt isnt what it used to be, we started to ponder if the english language needed a worse swear that could make people shudder and cringe like c*nt used to do. My question is, do you think its lost its edge?
Depends on where you live, and the culture in that area.

Where I live (Australia) the term is used very frequently, and it's not always derogatory. The term "you're a funny ****" for instance is a common affectionate use of the word here. It's also a word that is used a lot more in different countries - England uses it far more than the US - look at how rarely the word '****' turns up in American rap music, most of the classic profanity-laden rap albums of the last 20 years don't see the word '****' used even once.

Also be aware that many people are trying to reclaim the use of the word '****' as a positive word, in much the same way that gays and lesbians have very successfully reclaimed use of the word 'queer' in a positive context. It used to be a strong word against homosexuals but it's completely lost its sting due to the conscious efforts of the gay and lesbian communities to adopt it as a positive term. Expect to see this same process happen to '****' within a few generations.

I know that the word '****' bothers some women, but I don't care when women call me a 'dick' or a 'cockhead' so I don't really see how that's any different. I think some people just enjoy being offended. The word '****' comes from the Latin 'cunnus', meaning 'vulva', so the word is thousands of years old and was actually never originally a swear word in the first place anyway!

Well, try it out. Walk into a busy shopping centre and yell it out at the top of your lungs. See what happens.

I use it when I'm with certain people and most of the time I use it to make fun of the people who use it a lot.
You know what? ill do that :)

OT: And in response of a lot of people saying it means more to girls than guys, I guess that makes sense. I cringed a lot when I first heard it used, but as I continued to be around gamers I quickly got desensitized to everything :p

Ok, I'm sorry if someone else pointed this out (I kind of skimmed the other posts) but...

You do understand the irony of censoring a word which you are arguing has lost it's edge? If it really had, then why did you spell it with asterisks?
Lol good point but the only reason I did that was to not incur moderator wrath (just in case)
