I wanted to buy these games again, but I wasn't so sure about NV as my friend has had lots of problems on Xbox version, like his saves have become corrupted.

What's the latest with NV?

Also, are the DLCs any good?

Thanks guys :)

It works fine for me, there are still plenty of glitches, but nothing game-breaking.
I've never played any of the DLC

There has been lots of patching for NV. It went from game freezes every 2 hours to game freezes every 10 hours for me hahaha. So yeah, it's not perfect, but it's a lot more stable than it was when it was reviewed and hasn't bothered me since the patches.

Gameplay-wise, I <3 NV. It fixed a lot of the problems I had with FO3, like removing the nigh-invincibility gained from being in VATS, though I guess if you haven't played FO3 you wouldn't know. But gameplay is better. Story and characters are also better, IMO, and some claim the feel of FO3 from the environment is better, but I think it's just as good (different, but good).

Idk about the DLCs yet... I just made a new character who I'm going to level to 30 and then buy the DLCs.

I was playing it the other day and it crashed when I tried to load a different save but that's the first time something like that has happened to me in a 50 hour game time.

New Vegas took everything that was good about fallout 3 and improved on it and took everything that sucked about it and made it awesome. Oh ya and you can punch people in the face a bear trap. Yep you heard me right I just said you can punch people in the face with a bear trap.

The dlc is also not just something completely random like most of the stuff from fallout 3. It actually does tie into the story/backstory of new vegas and you are learning bits and pieces about a certain guy who is in a future dlc.
I?ll agree that FNV improved on a couple of things that F3 sucked at (main story and shooting) but it definitely took away some of the most compelling aspects of Fallout 3. Mainly the exploration: besides NV having a smaller map it just wasn?t as interesting to explore either. Sure it had more locations plotted on the map but only one or two of them were anywhere as interesting as most of the locations in F3. Also many of the locations in NV were all cluttered together making the map seem very contrived. And what happened to all the random encounters? They have like 2 or 3 of them that always happen in the same places.
DC felt like a real place and the Mojave feels like some amusement park.
And while they did improve on the shooting mechanics, there aren?t as many people/things to shoot at. And while they improved on the main story structure with NV, the side missions weren?t as interesting as the F3 sides which resembled the old creepy Twilight Zone episodes.
It depends on your preferences really:
If you want a harsh combative world that compels you to explore a wide map and deep locations, F3 is the better choice.
But if you?re looking for is a better story structure with lots of dialogue, NV is better.
This says it best:

Same, although I did think that the FO3 environment was nicer, everything else though, NV grabs 3 by the balls and starts swinging it around the room yelling like an LSD-sacked Tarzan. The weapons, story and gameplay of NV is honestly that much better to me. Also: Plasma Caster. You will find at most 2 in the game. It chews ammo. It will break in your hand BEFORE it runs out of ammo. But it is FRIKKING.AWESOME.
If you are gonna gamble, there is no choice but New Vegas XD
