Just watched Movie Bob's review of Monsters University and it was the 4th review I have seen/read this week that basically said MU was nothing to write home about, but it was his comment about "Brave" that made me think. "Brave" was a fun movie, but it was ... well ... not a Pixar movie. I mean, I liked it but the plot really didn't flow very well. There was TONS of things that could be done with the fallen kingdom and the witch and Muldoon, but those elements really only existed to teach our stubborn princess to be careful what she wished for.

So, has Pixar lost its touch? Is this a phase they will soon out grow? Or has all the talent been funneled into the Star Wars department?

If Pixar's short films are any indication, the talent, enthusiasm, creativity, spirit, etc. are all still there. It's just not coming through a whole lot in the studio's feature films.

Hopefully it starts to do so again.

I think focusing on sequels isn't doing much good for them, but I like Brave. It didn't really feel like Pixar (mind you I don't think Ratatouille feels very Pixar-ish, it ain't got shit on Brave though), but I still really liked it, as much as other Pixar films. I have faith that they'll come back with something new that'll be as good as anything they've done though.

I think it's just a phase. It's hard to have a consistent string of fantastic movies without having a couple of duds or overall "mehs" here and there. And like Marter said, the short films that play before each movie are still very much enjoyable, so I think they'll bounce back.

I think Dreamworks has caught up, and in some cases surpassed Pixar in quality 3D movies. Hell, Kung Fu Panda 2 is my favorite movie of all time. That being said, I like Pixar's "good" movies (Toy Story, Wall-E, Up, etc.) but I'm not going to just assume that everything they make is gold simply because they had a long streak of successes. Is it Disney's fault? Maybe. Disney has, historically, been all about the money. But I'm also not going to besmirch Pixar just yet over a string of "meh" films either. I'll give them another few years before it gets to that.

Note- Reviews are just a subjective opinion of one person. Criticism should definitely be offered, but this is something that you should ask yourself for.

As for me; I think that they're going to bounce back. I can't really base that on anything as I haven't seen Brave or Monster University, but it's just a passing phase that should go away come the next few movies.

3 OK movies out of how many REALLY good movies? No really, how many great movies have they done? I have a hard time remembering all of them, there are just so many.

Just a slight bump in the road, though they may be making more average movies in the future.

While I have no excuse for Cars 2, I don't think Pixar ever had a problem. Brave was as good as you could hope for, seeing how they completely redid the movie after finishing a very large amount of the animation, and Monsters University looks to be as good as a prequel to Monsters Inc. could ever really hope to be.

Give them a good topic and a good production schedule, and I'll bet they'll wow us again.

They're still good, but man they've lost their "always a stunner" reputation. I'm sorry, but the Cars movies just aren't that good. Monsters University is okay, but it's not as good as Pixar's stuff used to be. Toy Story 3 was great, but I honestly feel that Toy Story 2 was better.

They haven't been "out of the game" for long - I thought Up was their best work, and that was fairly recent. I still think Pixar has a lot of talent, but it is being pressured to release films quicker, and with quicker films inevitably comes poorer films. Art requires time, and Disney ain't giving them the time they need.

Also, Dreamworks have really put in a lot of effort and are now genuine rivals to Pixar.

I personally still think Brave was high up there with their usual quality so I think they're fine. Have yet to see Monsters University so we shall see.

Critics are to be taken with a pinch of salt regularly. You're on the same site that features Yahtzee, a man who knows himself that he should not be taken in utter seriousness.

I'm sure that for right now Pixar is just in a dry run right now for their reputation of amazing movies. I'm sure that there's plenty of potential ideas for movies which Pixar is acting on now or soon which will prove to be successful.

Yes they have lost 'it.'

But there is always a chance of them getting it back.

To be fair the last few movies haven't been bad, they just haven't been Pixar quality.

Eh, I don't know. No matter how good someone is at making movies, they aren't always going to make gold. That being said, I did like Monsters University. Plus the short before that, "The Blue Umbrella" was pretty charming.

I don't believe they ever lost it, or that most artists in general have lost it. I think someone is in a part of all these teams that shouldn't be there. Yeah, I mean someone is forcing terrible idea's to make quick cash that shouldn't.

I doubt they've lost much of anything, but are no longer allowed to express what they used to because of Disney. I'm waiting for any movie to rival The Incredibles, and I think that could only happen from Pixar.

I remember this exact same poll happening when Brave first came out. The answer was the same then as now: no, they still know exactly what they're doing.

I suppose this is the problem with being visionaries in your field: you make one or two 'mis-steps' (and from what I understand, Brave is still a good movie) and suddenly everyone thinks you're washed up and instantly forgets the fact you single-handedly defined the CGI film genre.

Uh, they didn't make either of those. Both were purely Disney Animation ventures.

My mistake, but it was produced by John Lasseter who I understand is big in Pixar/practically responsible for making them who they are, today.

Alright, alright: switch Wreck-It Ralph for Toy Story 3 and my point still stands.
