Look kid, I'll give you a little hint of what the forums used to be like.

This topic has been done over and over again. Since 2007.

Use the search bar.
The ol' "USE THE SEARCH BAR" refrain has had a good run, hasn't it?

I'm not really an Escapist vet yet (although I like to think I've got a bit of notoriety on here), but from the time that I joined the site I'd say it changed. A lot of people that made this place what it was left/got banned and a lot of new people joined the site too, but everything changes so its not really a huge deal. There are a few things I wish could be like it was, but I think everything is fine enough as it is right now as well.

EDIT: Also, why the fuck is there a MLP argument in this thread? Do we really need to have one of those in this thread? Because one of the things I liked about first joining here was that I didn't see the same stupid argument in every damn thread even if the thread originally had nothing to do with it. Fuck.

people change constantly, so do the forums that reflect them.

I don't think there is anything to worry about though, if you dont think a topic is worthy of discussion, don't comment or view it.

just don't give them the traffic, really. ^^

Relax you bloody fool, that was a joke. You really go around reporting people that try to lighten your mood? There wasn't even a conversation to add any value to to begin with...

I think everybody here can be a right proper asshole in the right circumstances. So yeah, internet in general. Thing is, you have to be an asshole at the right time and do it in places where nobody will report you. Like on a later page, not using excessive quotes.

HEY! joking around is a sign of being immature. If you are immature you won't get far ANYWHERE! So stop having fun and be a adult! (Lol)

OT: I think it change a little bit, though not by much. It still feels like you can't express your opinion without some douche bag calling you out on it and then saying "Your reasons are wrong." When you tell them why you like it.

Who the hell do they think they are to judge. If you like something then why should they care? Also before some asshole says "What about drugs" or something god awful, I'm talking about a matter of taste. Whatever it be movies, religion, games, or whatever else. Should you can debate about it, but don't go saying "YOUR WRONG!" When they have their own opinion about the matter.

Last I checked games weren't always for kids. Let's take Heavy Rain, GTA's and Amensia: Dark Descent. Are you going to give those games to a 12 year old?
Well my 12 year old nephew plays games like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and GTA while I was playing action and survival horror games on the original Playstation at his age so I'm gonna go ahead and say that yes I would.

You say that games weren't always for kids? I say the same about cartoons.

I'm starting to believe that I am not welcome here anymore. I must go on a quest that hardens me emotionally and physically, battle personal demons, and beg to be taken back to the community. By then I will be stiff, tense and at all times incredibly serious. There will be no recognizable difference between me and Gordon Brown.

Oh god no!

I was joking! See? I can do it too! I also laugh and smile! Please don't leave! Stay and be happy, the last thing we need around here is a third robot devoid of humor!

Although if you were to battle personal demons in a literal sense though some elaborate summoning means then that'd be quite badass.

Well that's bloody bad parenting right there.
How can you justify letting a child play wholly inappropriate games? Because you did? How is that a good justification?

I never said cartoons are for kids; MLP is though, as it is based on a little girl's playtime fantasies.
Oh just go away. I played Diablo and Resident Evil at age 6, AGE SIX! And I'm perfectly fine.

And stop with the My Little Pony "debate". You're allowed your opinions, but this thread was not even originally about MLP and the minds of neither you nor any bronies are gonna get changed about the show. So please, I ask nicely, just stop.

Also, if you want my logical reasoning as to why I wish you to stop this MLP "debate" it's because, to be blunt, it's bloody annoying.

So then the"cool"kid, what do you enjoy? looking at excel spread sheets for hours on end and thinking you're massively superior to everyone else because they like things you feel are inherently inferior to your oh so mature likes?

I like MLP (as evident from avatar), it's not a rational, logical thing, I like it because I do. It is good to watch. Logic and science does NOT have to dictate everything ever and this coming from a physicist.

Right now you're just looking like a huge hipster, "oh no something is popular, must hate it".

Meh, I grew up watching films like The Terminator, The Thing, Total Recall, Alien, Poltergeist etc. Wholly inappropriate films for someone my age at the time but damn good films all the same. That's not to say I didn't watch the traditional kids films too but there was nothing better that sitting down with the family at night watching Predator or Nightmare on Elm Street when I was a kid.

Same logic goes for the video games. Better to introduce a child to something as soon as the have the mental capacity for it rather than just going by the number on the box.

So what if MLP was based of off playtime fantasies? The basis for the idea doesn't diminish the quality of the idea in anyway and the quality is pretty damn good. Keep in mind that I'm not actually a fan of the show but I can recognise the quality in the footage I've seen, hell I'd probably actually watch it if I could be arsed to track down an episode or two.

And as for the bad parenting? I would politely ask you to fuck off and not comment on how I was raised.

I like this thread. I always like these threads, and I always post in every one of them. And there are sooo many of them! Primarily because they bring out all the old greats from hiding (Hi!). And, funnily enough because every time I see them I tend to agree that it's changed. Isn't it funny that way?
I also love all the love for the mods, but that's more personal.
TBH, the forums were probably at their best long before I came here, before the time of Yahtzee and when there were only a few people here. And it'd do us good to get back to the time of page long OPs and similarly long responses. But as long as I can express my opinion, have someone disagree with me, and argue long into the night without any of us losing respect for one and other, I'll continue to come back.
I would really enjoy it if you explained that a little more. How do you manage to avoid the pitfalls of this site so thouroghly? I could probably count on my hands the number of intelligent posts I have seen in several months. maybe a full year. Off the top of my head, I can only recall 2 or 3 times in the last year that I've had a meaningful discussion or a fun debate on a thread that didn't end with the other person's arguments eventually devolving into some version of "I'm right and you're wrong, deal with it." It's probably closer to a dozen, but you get my point.
My advice is to make sure to pick the thread, argument and the person well. There are some topics that will be extremely hard for most people to discuss maturely, some threads that will attract trouble-makers, and the trouble-makers themselves. It also depend on how you open the topic, if you let it be known you want to have an intelligent discussion, I'm sure there's someone out there that will oblige.
I have been having less debates, but I'm also posting less. (I have been trying to get into some Year of gaming discussions in the favourite fives, but no one comments there. I think I'm gonna make a thread/search bar.) Maybe it's cuz I'm a mod, you'd have to be pretty stupid to try to flame a mod...
If you want more discussion, try the Religion and Politics sub-forum. It's the most full of pitfalls sub-forum, but it is also the place for some of the best discussions, even if you may have to work to find/start one.

Yeah, after reading some of the back catalogue of this guys posts he is just a troll upon this site. Expressing things such as MW3 is not fun as an absolute fact on a MW3 thread. Then saying that smokers are idiots and noone should actually want to, but alcohol and caffeine are different stories on a thread about smoking.

When you go reading at length you'll realise that his every post is presenting his opinion as an absolute fact whilst dismissing everyone else's as incorrect.
