I am currently looking at buying a new console and was interested in the failure rate. I hear ranges from 15% to 40%. For some fun, I'm asking you guys.

So pretty much vote, and if you want explain what happened; when your Xbox was made, how old it was when it died, where you bought it from, what happened to it, etc.

Please only discuss Xbox failures, no wild tangents on how PS3 is better or anything like that.

Note: September 2007 was when Microsoft released a new version of the Xbox that was less prone to breakage.

Mine's an old one, but it hasn't died yet. I take very good care of my consoles.

*Knocks on wood*

However, I've heard that the new consoles have a RROD rate of 5-10%. Pretty good if it's true, eh?

I've had mine since 06', never once got RROD or have it die on me. And I leave it on for hours a day and such. Mines lucky, and now the older it gets the more I take care for it.

I had one that broke before Sept07, and one that broke after. With the latter one, I dropped it about a month before it RR'd, so that might have been a contributing factor. But now I have an elite, and I haven't had a single problem. If money's no worry, get an elite.

I've had a RROD scare, but I had been running it for 8 hours in 30C+ temperatures, with insane humidity with no extra fan (not much room for the 360s fan either). So I was asking for it. But I've had my 360 since xmas and its served me well up till this point

Why the hell are you on your seventh xbox? I'd have given up after two!

I bought mine from my brother in law. He bought it right before he was deployed on his second tour in Iraq (brand new, like 2005 some time?). It sat virtually unused until he got back the end of last year, and then he pretty much kept it on 24-7, until it started doing the lovely disc drive click-stall out thing. But no red ring.

I bought it from him knowing it was pretty much going to die soon. I use it several times a week, for a couple hours at a time, and it's still ok. Still clicks and stutters around, some days are worse than others, but no RRoD yet.

I wonder how many of you out there are having the same perpetual drive problems too, even though it still works for you.

No, but it does write make bets, and make other arties dreams come true too. Neither syntax.

I had the Red Ring of Death two weeks ago, but that very simple problem should be fixed by now.

I know deep down inside you're right, I should just give up on the dudbox...But then I'll get shitty half assed ports to the PS3 for games like Skate. If developers weren't so lazy and just learn the proper way to develop game for the PS3, I wouldn't have this problem.

.... Sort of. I got one that just didn't work out of the box. The replaced one has worked fine though, and I've had it since fall of 2006.

I once thought my Xbox 360 had red-ringed on me, but my friend just pointed out that it just wasn't plugged in.

Reminds me of another time, when I thought my 360 had died on me, but it was just on the wrong channel.

Come to think of it...a lot of my tech problems are like that. I guess that's a good thing. :)

You can click on "Show results" (off to the right of the poll)
To just go ahead and see the results, just letting you know.

My 360 was made after September, and it has broken down twice, both times it was not the full red ring of death, just a single red quarter. So I didn't get the extended warranty.

Mine broke the Friday before last. I had it a year. It is the third time I have had one broken. One a year and a half before and the other a year and 2-4 months. The second one died in less then 2 months because it was from that batch of fucked ones.

I'm on my fourth one.

Funny story (full of my pain and anguish) incoming.

Over the summer, my Xbawkz failed. Oh well, I'll just send it in and that will be that. I wasn't bothered by it at all. I was bored for a good few weeks because I procrastinated sending it in, but I sent it in and went on a three day vacation, which helped the wait.

Anyways, I get it back, plug it in, it starts all nice and dandy. Some Xbox LIVE problems, so I go through thirty minutes of troubleshooting. On around my 12th time testing my connection, my screen goes black. "Hm, strange..."

Then I see it.

Not only thirty minutes after I got my Xbox back, I see three. red. rings.

I raged with the power of 9000 suns.

I bought mine last november, haven't had a problem with it. If you buy a one now, I think they got the majority of the hardware problems taken care of.

Ever notice how the people who actually have issues with their X-Box are on their 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th console? Pretty odd if you ask me.
