the launch failure rate of the 360 was 50%

that's lowered somewhat, probably to around 40% overall. Newer systems have much lower failrates, but the bulk of systems are refurbs from the initla batch that was busted.

mine has failed though, yes, but not a general hardware failure, mine was 1 light, E73 ethernet port malfunction. Still had to send it in because the system wouldn't dare run without a working ethernet port.

interestingly enough, if you're in california and your launch 360 RRoD'd, they're setting up a class action lawsuit against microsoft

I don't know the details about how to be involved in that, but it's out there somewhere.

I had a release console that died about two months ago. Why did you leave me?!?!

Anyways try to buy a new console and it's very unlikely you'll have problems, I haven't had any at all so far.

For some reason that just screams "FUCKING RETARDED!!" Seriously, they're filing a freaking lawsuit over a console? It'd cost less money to buy a new one, or get your old one fixed (I know one of my friends can do it. keeping him close :p)

Ugh... I'm sorry if I offend anyone with this comment, I don't mean to, but seriously, how stupid can you get?

the point is, there should have been a recall, considering the failure rate was 50%, and they knew it.

And heroine is still a very addictive drug but you don't see drug addicts going "Hmm, perhaps this is bad for my health." The point is, if you are stupid enough to launch a lawsuit against a corporation like Microsoft and not just buy a new console, you shouldn't be allowed to do anything with adult supervision.

Secondly, they're only JUST setting this up? I mean, c'mon!

I bought mine last november, haven't had a problem with it. If you buy a one now, I think they got the majority of the hardware problems taken care of.
What he said.

My 360 bricked on me yesterday. Just rented Dead Space and the screen froze. After trying one of my own games, and then Geometry Wars 2, I got the RROD. Thankfully I qualify for the free replacement, but I'm not that peeved. My 360 is more of an amusing diversion while waiting for my computers to do updates and what not.

As a hardcore gaming platform for "real" gamers, yes it has.
As a consumer grade electronic entertainment toy made to cater to the "drunken frat boy" demographic? complete success.

P.S. idea for a "lord of the rings" X-box game "the red ring of death"
Is it cold up on your high horse?

what? the x-box is not made for serious "gamer" types. it was made for a certain demographic. the young "Partying" male. it is simple and full of fun action games. but does not have the family/new gimmick appeal of the wii or the versatility of the PlayStation or PC. it is simple to set up, no long installs, no wires to trip over when in a party. it was made for that demographic, and it succeeded at what it sent out to do.

except for the red ring of death. but maybe micro$oft meant to do that, they did the same thing with windows ME (shudder) and now with Media Player 11...
my objection was with your use of "real" gamer.

I've been gaming for 20 years. If I'm not a real gamer, you're not an ass.

Ah yes, the obsolescence scheme.

My roommate has one back in his home, and as far as I've heard, it works fine (although I'm only assuming since he's never mentioned anything about it not working. Still, he did play Castle Crashers recently, so I'm assuming it works). That's about the only experience I've got: I know room 310 has one, but I haven't been there much.
