Two of the most polar opposite games are being released within a few days of difference. Reviews of both are already being published, and the rest is now up to the public.

I'm talking about the over-edgy indie mass murder simulator Hatred, and the over-colorful Nintendo's kids friendly shooter Splatoon.

Hatred is a single-player twin stick shooter that became famous because in the trailer the extra-edgy protagonist ("I hate this world and all the human worms feeding of its carcass!" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV3PhvCf_Jg]) makes several explicit executions of innocent people that caused controversy. His world is a black and white, with some color effects to give more impact (police car lights, explosions and fire).

Splatoon is a multiplayer focused third-person shooter where squid-kids with identity issues ("You're a kid now! You're a squid now! You're a kid! You're a squid!" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjPOSKnOftA]) battle in a fierce ink-gun shooting competition... where the team who colors most of the arena wins. Nintendo has been trying hard to put as much hype on it as possible.

These are some weird days in gaming. I wonder how many people will enjoy them...

Neither.

Hatred looks like a teenager who is going through his Marilyn Manson phase. He needs to show everyone how tough and scary he is by throwing a trench coat on while smoking cigarettes in the boys bathroom between class.

Meanwhile Splatoon is for a system that I do not own, have no intention of owning, and is a game I wouldn't buy even if I did own the system it was for because I don't do multiplayer unless I know who I'm playing with. Not to mention that Nintendo doesn't exactly have a great rep for having multiplayer-friendly equipment.

Really, I'm waiting for a game where cutesy squid kids brutally kill each other and a game where a nihilistic social outcast loads easily washable paint into squirt guns and sprays the town a rainbow of colors. /sarcasm

Seriously, this is an odd poll.

I'll probably get Splatoon soon. The lack of voice chat is a negative, but most of my console multiplayer experience has proven that eventually most of the people worth talking with seem to disappear after a while anyway. Skype will probably come into play if I get a serious group together.

I see Hatred as just what is: a mindless game who's only selling point is creating a senseless bloodbath. Though, it shouldn't be censored (that will just provoke someone to make an even bloodier game). If I want to run around a digital world killing random civilians, my PS2 and copies of GTA 3 and Vice City, both with save files with all of the goodies unlocked, are just a few feet away.

It would be nice to have Splatoon, just so my sisters could have something to play. But then I don't have a WiiU or a PC, so "none" for me.

Neither. I don't own a Wii U, I don't care for multiplayer, and I'm overall uninterested by both games.

I'm not sure why this is even a question.

There's no way I'm getting either soon, but Splatoon is something I actually want.

Neither? I just got Rage for PC so...I guess Splatoon and Hatred can go fuck themselves?
Also can I just say Splatoon sounds like a Porno title. Splatoon 5; The frosting of Ginger Lane!

I'm not going to be getting a Wii U until October, but if Splatoon manages to hold my interest to that point then it'll probably the first console shooter I've bought in 8-ish years.
It'll at least add to the games i'm interested in playing, along with Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.

Neither for me.

Hatred can go fuck itself on general principles, along with everyone in a six mile radius of it.

Splatoon... err, Splatoon strikes me as the opposite extreme of last gen's brown shooters. I'm all for some colour, but painting everything neon fucking green is a bit much. That game is ugly as all hell. Plus I don't own a WiiU, so there's that.

Nyeh.

Hatred sounds... Dull?

As someone who does in fact own a Wii U, splatoon looks interesting, but I wouldn't put it high on my list of games to actually buy...
Maybe after I've gotten around to actually buying some other stuff first...?

I'd be pretty interested in Splatoon to be honest, but y'know, WiiU would kinda have to be purchased first... Hatred just doesn't appeal to me, and so far the reviews I've seen have mentioned it is completely mediocre, and is pretty much relying on its publicity for sales. I'll pass.

I'll get Hatred in a sale at some point when there's been some time for good mods to pop up. I wouldn't mind playing splatoon, but it isn't a system seller as far as I'm concerned.

Splatoon looks cool, Hatred looks like garbage. So yeah, it's a no-brainer.

Splatoon is brilliant, not too sure if Hatred is something mature enough for me to play. From a gaming perspective it looks like what a 16 year old might think of as teh brutulz but the mechanics are the same crap we've seen in multiple games.

I'm honestly surprised that I'm the only one planning on getting both so far.

Splatoon and Hatred are both 90s incarnate, and Splatoon especially seems incredibly fun to me. Hatred I'm more into because of the destructibility and modding potential, though.

Neither.

Hatred looks about as interesting as any other twin-stick-shooter (read: not much unless you are into the genre already) and the controversy surrounding it is just dumb. Also, according to what gameplay I saw on TB's WTF series, it looks extraordinarily dull.

Splatoon looks really cute and fun, but I am not into multiplayer shooters and I don't have a WiiU, so the question of whether I would get it is entirely moot for me.

Neither.

I was interested in Hatred because I'm a sucker for destructible environments, but I'll probably let it pass unless reviews start going up.

I'm very interested in Splatoon and am very happy it exists, and it's a game I feel like I'd have a blast playing, but I'm not about to buy a Wii U for one game. Unfortunately it looks like this one will pass me by.

Splatoon arrived this morning. Like the look of it, and wanted something to play with a friend of mine who's far away.

I am mildly interested in Splatoon, but I do not own a Wii U, so I cannot play that even if I wanted to.

As for Hatred, I cannot say that I am interested one bit. This is a game that is riding on the (questionable) controversy, rather than on its own merits. I mean, kudos to the developer for hardly spending a dime on marketing, and just letting the media do it for them, but it isn't really a game that I am interested in.

I don't have a wii u and hatred looked boring, so none. Splatoon looks nice though. You can turn into a squid and move quickly and cloaked through the piece of the map that your team has already painted. That is a clever idea.
