I didn't intend to get one at all, really. At the bare minimum, Sony gives more value. Xbox wasn't really an option to begin with. But theoretically if the DRM had changed my mind, it wouldn't be changing back now because they put that shit in there knowing the inconvenience it was going to cause. It's like trusting someone who pulled a knife on you because they put it away again.

MS has shown nothing but utter contempt for their customer base.

Called us "backward" for asking for BC.

Told us to "DealWithIt".

The hell with them.

While I'm still gonna wait until the thing drops, I will say this much:

But that's about it. Just one fuck.

It's ruined. The best aspect of the Xbox One, and the main reason I was interested in it, was because of the digitally based game system instead of the archaic disc based system. I now have limited interest in either console.

I was absolutely not going to get one. Now there is a chance I might get one.

This is still in play: http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/139706-microsofts-new-kinect-patent-goes-big-brother-will-spy-on-you-for-the-mpaa

I do not want a Kinect. Period.

Whoa, they listened to reason? This at least shows that they do care at least to a degree about what the customer wants. Now it just comes down to the exclusives when I'm deciding which console to get.

Microsoft told me to fuck off and buy a 360.
Sony has not told me to fuck off.

Seems straightforward enough to me. Plus the PS4 is cheaper and doesn't force unwanted peripherals on me.

Its good to see they backed off from some of there bullshit but i still dont trust microsoft now. You just know there gonna try something similiar or they left out a really bad detail thats gonna make this so called "goodwill" be just another lie. So as of now im still just getting a ps4. (Already have a wii u lol, bought one about a week ago and like it sofar.)
No, they backed out because it made the mainstream media and people were completely shocked that microsoft was doing this. Shareholders were going to be backing out and numerous other things. Watch the Jimquisition that just came out. He pretty much says that while this is a good thing, its still really bad because microsoft still tried and wasn't changing because of the gamers so much as they were because of the long term damage that was being done to them on numerous fronts. Yes the gamers played a role in that, but it was not a large enough role to make them change it by themselves. More mainstream media stepped into play.

To be honest microsoft was not listening to the gamers but their shareholders and a lof of other groups that could have hurt them more than us gamers. The fact that they still tried to get away with this crap is enough to make me not want to pick up another product from them for a very long time.

Nope sorry, I don't trust Microsoft to not go ahead and try to reintroduce the DRM gradually once the console has launched

Ha ha ha, no. The fact remains that they were completely ready and willing to go through with it in the first place, so am I going to give them my money? Pardon my language, but fuck no.

No, I don't plan on getting one.

Interesting thing though, Wired finally ran out of stuff to report on the NSA and arrived tardy to the E3 party and they are clearly on Microsoft's side. Their writers are passive aggressively defending MS' previous stance and a fair chunk of their users are determined to continue defending the Xbone with such complaints as:

But now that MSoft has turned their policies around, I am not looking forward to HAVING to insert a disc for a store bought game again. So much for fast swapping between games. Thanks internet. ( http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/06/e3-2013-analysis/#comment-935814622 )
It's just sickening that after everything there are people who bought MS' pitiful propaganda hook, line, and sinker. It's even worse to see such a reputable tech site siding with MS.

This is a start. Microsoft, ditch the mandatory kinect (and lower the price to match), and then we'll talk.

I'm going to wait on this thing to see how it pans out. Plus, it needs to have a lot of good games to convince me to buy it. in the meantime, I'm still planning out a Tron-themed gaming tower because I want to make stuff.

I was absolutely not getting one after those two marketing debacles... now, I might reconsider. I still don't exactly trust Microsoft, but this bold move of theirs shows me that they are, indeed, listening and that someone is still able to make big decisions that make sense, are really quite simple but are against everything they've so meticulously laid out.

The physical disc as a one-stop copy protection mechanism is just so easy, so cheap it's practically free. I like that. They could still offer those sharing shenanigans for digital downloads, as those don't come with discs. Show us the good, we might swallow some of the bad all too willingly after that. But don't ever start selling me something the way they just did. Their conferences freaked me the hell out. Most major turn off of the decade so far.

Nope, still not going to buy one.

Wasn't planning on it in the first place, due to my recent induction to the glorious PC gaming master race, but this didn't change much. It still bugs me that they tried this whole DRM bunk in the first place though.

Given how quickly they managed to remove the features that they apparently couldn't remove because of how intergral to the system, I have no faith that they won't just put them back at a later date after everyone has spent money on the machine. And whilst they did something pro-consumer they were also trying to royally fuck them over in the first place. Something a lot of people won't let them live down. Plus it's still more expensive and has a useless peripheral that is required (probably as 'required' as the DRM was).

It's still a no from me.

No, because of that pesky Kinect. I live in a little apartment. Kinects hate people who live in small spaces.

It's nice to see them back off from their REALLY stupid policies, though.

I'm absolutely amazed with Microsoft, and I love that they've realised that they listen to their customers, not the other way around. After such a savage beating, I guess we finally knocked some sense into them.

However, they still tried it, and went all-in. They're still focusing on TV, ignoring indies and moving in directions that I don't care for.

They drove me to the loving arms of Playstation, where I discovered the awesomeness of the PSN+. I'm committed now, at least for this generation. The Xbone still needs to fail, as far as I'm concerned, because the message must be sent loud and clear: do not fuck with our games.

Next generation, I'm all ears.
Welcome to the Playstation friend! It's good to have you!

OT: I never planned on getting the XBone. Hell I've already pre-ordered a PS4.

I don't think I have anything else to say beyond what everyone else has said. It's a good move on Microsoft's part, but it's a move motivated by the wrong reasons. IMO: I believe that this was motivated less by the consumer reaction and more by the fact that the PS4's pre-orders are outstripping those of the XBone by a ridiculous margin.

...Now that I think about it those are kind of the same thing aren't they. In short: motivated by money, not goodwill.

They pissed away a LOT of consumer trust with their jackassery over the past few weeks. Honestly, I hope they get none of it back. They don't deserve it, at least not at this point. Maybe in the future, if they stick to this course, but definitely not now.
