MORE LIKE GAME SLUMP LOL

I used to love Game Grumps, but I feel like some of the magic has been lost lately. I used to watch every day, now I haven't seen one in, like, two weeks.

I don't know whether it's the games they're choosing or them, it just isn't as entertaining to me lately. They just seem kinda bored to me, like they're just punching the clock so to speak instead of just being two funny, high-energy guys having fun.

Maybe it's just me though. How do you feel?

Yeah, I unsubscribed from them a while back because it just became completely uninteresting to me. A big part of that was the fact that they rarely talk about the game they're playing, even while they're playing it; I know that when they reach episode 76 of Sonic '06 or whatever they're got being to be completely focused on it all the time, but there were plenty of bits where there was an hilariously bad cutscene going on, ripe for the mocking, and they would just keep going with a completely unrelated conversation.

In fact, earlier today I decided to give them another go. I searched through their more recent videos for a game I'm interested in (which is pretty rare now), and found that they started playing Bayonetta. Hooray, I thought. And within minutes, they're talking about irrelevant stuff and skipping all the cutscenes. Seriously, they skipped the intro cutscene for Bayonetta. Why would you do that? I dunno.

I agree with what you mean about them both seeming kind of bored, and it just seems like there's no quality control and no interest in actually making good videos; they're happy to just slump on the sofa and do whatever while they record it.

They've definitely gone downhill, probably so they can keep uploading 3 vids a day. If you don't spam videos every day YouTube commentators start whining and they don't want that.

I stopped watching ages ago. Half of their videos are just wanking about their favorite games/Nintendo/childhood. The Banjo-Kazooie one is the worst for this, Jon gushed over things that really aren't that amazing but OMG HE PLAYED IT AS A KID SO IT'S THE BEST EVAR

I used to think they were really funny, but they went downhill fast.

When Game Grumps first started, I gave it a whirl. For myself, I never really understood the appeal of "Let's Play" videos but I like their individual stuff so I figured why not.

That sadly lasted about two weeks for me. The more I watched it, the more annoying it became for me. Egoraptor just didn't seem to care about being funny except for random outbursts, and JonTron was just this constant, yammering voice. There wasn't any real cohesion on the screen with what they talked about, and their dialogue was either irrelevant or outright painful (I remember one video where Egoraptor couldn't figure out how many meters went into a kilometer or something or that caliber of facepalming).

I wish them both the best, but at the same time, I really, truly feel they are wasting their talents on this pursuit.

I never saw the appeal, to be honest. Humor is totally subjective, and they just aren't funny to me, and their commentary isn't informative either.
Their commentary is similar to what me and my friends say when doing stuff, but if I want that, I talk to people I know.

I haven't watched any of their videos in like a month cause I'm just bored with it now. There's only so many SNES platformers I can take.

I don't watch them religiously anymore but I do find them still funny. I still haven't laughed like I did at their Goof Troop or Pokemon episodes but the new Pocky and Rocky videos are pretty good. They are usually talking about things I find interesting/funny so I'll still be watching for a while.

Eh, I don't think you've seen how bad Youtube Let's Plays can get...

OT: I'll admit I'm getting bored of them never paying attention to any of the games they play that aren't Castlevania. They miss every text pop-up telling them what to do or where to go, run around in circles when they're on a mostly straight path, and then complain that the game isn't informing them what to do well enough... because they were more focused on making jokes.

I loved it when they started, because they were mostly staying topical and discussing the games they were playing, while making jokes and talking about interesting things like game design and whatnot, but now that... I dunno, they've gotten more comfortable? It seems like they're settling into a pretty predictable pattern, and it's a little tiring. I don't mind them fucking off and being silly, but the lack of progress they make in an average episode can be quite astounding.

Oh, god...Wario World...*shudders*

For a long time, every time I thought "aw man, I guess they are going into a slump", they would immediately come out with a great, hilarious, and/or smart episode. Now...maybe not so much. Seriously, how can you fuck up Star Fox 64? I don't know, but they are.

Nah, I still love me a bit of game grumps.

I mean one of the recent episodes of the sonic 06 series had me in tears.

I got bored of them a very long time ago. When they first started I was reluctant to subscribe, since it didn't really seem that interesting to me. Then I did and watched for a while, then I just got bored with how stupid and aimless it was. Then I saw they were doing Sonic '06, so I resubbed for that. I hardly watched anything else from them at the time though, since it wasn't very good. Sonic even dragged sometimes too. Then they finished the Sonic campaign and then that series turned to crap as well, so I unsubbed again, and haven't been back.

It was never really very good, and the guys are really terrible commentators. They basically just laugh at the games and make really unfunny jokes, and by the word "joke" I mean they say the word "ass" a lot. That gets very old very fast.

It seems they totally abandoned their usual work, which was really good, for this. So yeah. Great.

Oh, I know how much worse it can get, but those other Let's Players aren't getting hundreds of thousands of views and potentially making a living off what they do. Like you say in your post, they haven't become really bad, just lazy.

They're constantly insisting that isn't the case, but... I mean, Pokeawesome 2 and Sequalitis Zelda have been "coming out soon" since, what, August? And if we make it through summer, we'll have had ONE Jontron in the past YEAR.

Can't say I blame them though. I mean, if you could make roughly the same money by either writing, filming/animating, and editing a 20 minute video or hanging out with your best friend playing video games, what would you do?

I'd like it if they took the summer off. Cool down a bit, work on their other stuff, come back fresh in the fall.

The big issue with Game Grumps is that they take more a podcast-y approach to it rather than relying on "gaming" or "grumping" (not saying they have to complain to be entertaining that is.) Second issue along with that podcast approach is that they have nothing interesting to say 99% of the time and Jon insists on constantly fucking singing. Slap in skipping the tutorial and complaining about the game not giving them enough to work on along with saying games hold your hand too much nowadays and you've pretty much summed it up.

They'd certainly gotten lazier in their general approach to it around when I stopped watching which is a shame because having the guy who made sequelitis looking at a variety of games could actually be interesting but no, it's mainly just bad impressions and disjointed commentary along with shitty gameplay.

Eh, the only one I've watched even part of is the Sonic '06 one. As someone who has 100% completed it, side missions and all, I was like "Well I can respect anyone who has the patience to complete this as well" but after about episode 20, I just went "Fuck this shit" and didn't bother. It was occasionally funny, but not enough to ignore the sheer stupidity of pretty much everything they were doing.

Pokeawesome 2 just came out today. Egoraptor gave a reason for taking so long. Doesn't really excuse him, but yeah.

Also, what? One JonTron? Uh...

Space Ace
Continue - Drunkstravaganza
Nightshade
Kings Quest
Birdemic
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts
Top 10 Necessary sequels
Star Wars Kinect
CS GO
Charlies Angels

Have all come out within a years time. Charlie's Angels came out on April 20, 2012. Jon slowed down after GG, but not THAT much. Even if you meant if we got past summer, there was still Space Ace, drunkstravaganza and Nightshade.

OT: Yeah, I've kinda stopped watching them for a bit, but I think they're still funny.

I pop on and off with them now although I only started watching about two months ago. My biggest issue is that they never finish the games they start commenting on... Or maybe they did. In which case, they're just holding onto those Pokemon videos to taunt me.

...

I've been infected with their joy.

Compare the first Mario Party 2 vs to the revengeance version.

It was so different to me that it's kind of unsettling. I think it started with Naughty Bear, which was terrible and awful.

However, the ultimate muscle vs and Guest Grumps were fantastic and amazing, so I hope for more of those.
