I got the original Xbox to play Knights of the Old Republic, Metal Gear Solid 4 was the deciding factor in getting a PS3 if that counts, and I will absolutely buy a Wii U if the Yoshi's Land rumor turns out to be true just to play it.
Buying a console just for one game? No.
Buying a console because I want to play one particular game and then get all the other games that interested me? All of them.
I bought my PS2 for Jak and Daxter.
I bought my PS3 for Uncharted (What can I say, I'm a Naughty Dog fan).
I bought my PSP for Daxter (I smell a trend here...).
I bought my Vita for... wait for it... Persona 4 Golden (Surprise!)
And I bought my DS for NSMB.
One game made me buy those systems, but I always had other games in my crosshairs even before I bought them
Wii- Super Smash Bros. Brawl. *sigh* Went straight back to Melee 2 months later...
PSP- MGS Peace Walker. No regrets, worth every penny, even got my copy signed by Hideo Kojima himself. :')
PS3- MGS4. Waited for a cheaper version, the slim came out, got it, now I own MGS4 and exclusives up the wazzo.
(maybe) Vita- Persona 4 Golden. ITS SO DAMN TEMPTING!!!
While there were other games I wanted for it, I remember Final Fantasy XV (Versus XIII as it was known back then) being the primary motivation I had for purchasing a PS3. I think we all know how that went.
However, I don't regret it. After my Xbox360 broke for the second time my sister and I have decided that we are solely Sony people when it comes to consoles. If our 360 breaks once more I actually plan to replace my current 360 games for PS3 versions. Although it's going to be a nuisance earning all that money since I highly doubt game stores do the "exchange this game for the same one but on a different system" thing, and that's to say nothing of the DLC.
