In college, I regularly skipped class for far less valid reasons, so if a game I really wanted to play had just come out, I skipped class anyway to play it.
In the real world, I have never called in sick to play a game. That said, I can work from home almost whenever I please (I'm a programmer), and if I'm stuck on something or between projects, I feel no guilt "working from home" and goofing off instead, like I did today with Portal 2.
