I remember buying Resident Evil 5 and 6 because of their demos. I regret 6 a little bit considering how fast the game died, but 5 was well worth it.

Right now I'm looking at PayDay 2 because of the demo that came out a couple of weeks ago, but I'm having a hard time finding a physical copy.

Yeah I've done that alot back in the 90's when free trials was a standard thing. I very much enjoyed getting the multidemo disks inside magazines or finding them to play at the local game store and would often play the trial and later when possible get the game. I still expect demos but find few for the types of games I enjoy most. At the least every last game made should have free demo allowed for them in download form or given out within playstation and xbox or other magazines I think there maybe one hold out left that does this. They could even just do a holiday version of the magazine sold that includes all the games you could buy this year and just charge extra for that magazine if the customer feels that extra price tag is worth it for such a large demo disk then they'd buy it.

I'm sure the reason for them no longer doing this practice is because of theft just keep the magazines behind the counters and don't allow them to be sold on the main racks at books stores but behind the cash registers this way no theft and less known games finally get a chance to show what they can do if you could play games like Remember Me or AC even with Remember Me's low budget advertising it could've sold even more then it did.

I bought state of decay because of the demo and I'm alive as well. I think for on demand games a demo is definitely a must I pass up games on there because I can't try them and I'm not willing to plunk down the cash on a might enjoy this title in any category. When it comes to the download on demand or arcade games there really is no excuse as to why they can't just open up one level or in the case of an indie title a time limit of a level so players can experience the game and see if they truly like it a description is one thing but being able to kick the tires myself rather then watch some guy out at E3 do it is better.

Gothic 1, Railroad Tycoon 2 (took me 10 years lol), EVE Online (well it has a 3 weeks trial...), and I'm sure there was some other, but it's rigth on the edge of my memory at the moment.

Yes actually; Crusader Kings II. Before I played the Demo, I thought that I wouldn't get into CK II. I was thinking that since it focused more on Lineage and less on Conquest, it wouldn't be my cup of tea. But then I actually played it, and my Bohemian King took over Lubeck and that little District beneath Bohemia, and I realized that it was actually more fun to play then EU3 or Victoria 2 (I can't actually get the Demo for EU4 to run on this computer, so I can't judge it).

Now I'm pretty much going to buy the game (As well as 4 or so of the DLCs) by Christmas.
