The first and last time I ever lost my temper Yes, I hit someone. then I kept hitting him until I was subdued. I'm told I was completely flushed red and frothing at the mouth. might have killed the bastard if there hadn't been enough of my classmates around to pull me off of him.

lets just say that this guy was a serious bully. he was about a foot shorter than me, and 50 pounds lighter, but I let him push me around for a couple of years. then he went a little too far and found out what happens when people snap.

Yeah, a few people, though not in recent years. My first few years of highschool were rough. That and this fellow tried to mug me and a friend once while I was fairly drunk. Despite his pulling a gun I snapped and wailed at him before my friend pulled me away....twas intense.

Oh yeah. I think being a pub goer in the UK requires that i'm eventually gonna have to hit someone.

Self defence only though, and it always hurts like a ***** afterwards unless I hit them in the stomach or throat. Especially if you go for a throat punch and they bring their chin down on it. Either way you're knocking them on their arse, but you'll push a knuckle out of place doing it.

It's actually pleasing winning a fight that someone else started with you, surprisingly. That always worried me slightly.
I've been going to pubs for some eight years in the UK and I've never had to throw a punch.
You need to find better (less chav filled) pubs.
Agreed wholeheartedly. Funnily enough, the one I actually go to is actually considered peaceful around here. I know a few I like to go in that have had only a few fights in the decades they've been around, but they're a good 30 minute drive from me so I rarely get a chance to go.

I used to love fighting. I wasn't a bully by any stretch of the imagination, just wouldn't take shit from mouthy douchebags. I haven't thrown a punch in a few years though. in some ways we all grow up I guess. fighting was fun as a teen and as I'm making my way through my twenties it becomes harder and harder to justify hitting people to solve problems.

Normally I wouldn't because I firmly believe that violence is always the least favourable option in conflict resolution.

I did punch my brother in the face once because he's a self centered hypocritical **** who constantly goes on about how everyone else is a hypocrite like he's some kind of misunderstood saint.

I used to get in fights a lot as a kid, because I had a real short temper. That was nothing too serious though and I grew out of it by 2nd grade. The story I'm about to tell is the one time I've truly punched someone in the face.

In high school there was a kid in one of my classes who always ran his mouth to anyone he could. He would always try to pick on whatever characteristic he could about anyone he could and if anything happened he could always claim he didn't really do anything. The sad thing is it usually worked.

One day in one of my history classes, I forget which one, but he started barking at me from the other side of the room. I was trying to make a point and he tried for about 10 minutes to prove me wrong. That's all well and good and I'm fine with a good debate but then when he started flinging insults my way I started firing back. He then started insulting my uncle who has Downs Syndrome.

He talked for a couple of minutes about him, and the room went dead silent while he did. Everyone in there knew my uncle and knew that my uncle was a sensitive subject to everyone in my family (I had a brother and 2 cousins who went to the same high school). He said his all he could think of to say about how he was retarded, couldn't read, couldn't talk, couldn't understand, and even did an impression, and he was proud of himself sitting there in his desk, laughing. I stood up, didn't say a word, walked over to him and hooked him in the face. I didn't get him as good as I felt he deserved so I hit him again and the second time he and the desk fell over. I then walked out of the classroom and straight to the principal's office. Turns out I cracked his jaw, and then he transferred shortly thereafter.

What happened to him was inevitable, I was just glad it happened at my hand. One of the most satisfying moments of my life.

One time years ago in school. This guy from my class thought it'd be funny to pull my bag as he was walking behind me so I asked him to stop. After he didn't stop he tried turning me around for.....some reason I guess.

Anyways, I used that small bit of extra momentum from the dude turning me to give him a nice punch in the eye for not stopping. He had a nice black eye and it was all water under the bridge a week later.

As much as I like being a peaceful guy, it felt really REALLY good to just let it out in that one moment.

A few times, one time in particular I snapped and beat the shit out of a guy for about 15 minutes, and before you give me any funny looks, he deserved it, and it was a blind rage I sincerely only remember only 2-3 seconds of it. Also after that we became best friends. Strange how that happens. I also got in a fight with my oldest brother (he started it) and threw him down half a flight of stairs then beat the shit out of him, and no he didn't learn from that. He's still an asshole. However with all that said I do hate violence.

Only on accident. So, no... I've never punched someone with the intent of hurting them.

A few times I probably should have.

I've been taking a martial arts class for almost 6 years... Over that course of time you've given a few of your peers a bloody nose or a fat lip. They've also probably done the same to you. (yes they have)

Yeah, several people, although non recently I'll admit. I think the last time was when I was back in school. Like in year 11. There was this nerdy kid who we used to let hang out with us cos he didn't have any friends. Well one day he kept talking about runescape and about why we should all play it and by the end of the day I was sick of it and told him to shut up and grow up.

He took the opportunity to take the mick out of me for being deaf (I've got 70% hearing loss)well this made no sense to me as I was pretty much the closest thing this guy had to a friend so I told him to fuck off, when he continued I whacked him right in the eye. He ran off then.

I'm not exactly proud of it, but as things go I think it was pretty justified.

I've been in a few real knock-down drag-outs and thrown my share of punches. Two years back (while good and drunk) I got in a bar fight and ended up throwing my best punch at a cinder block wall. It was meant for a bloke's head, but he dropped under it. Two broken fingers and two busted knuckles later, and I can't make a fist with that hand anymore. So I won't be takin' a swing at anyone anytime soon.

No. I'm more of a grappler. If I'm striking first it's usually all open-hand just looking for an opening to snag a joint and cause pain to occur from it.

I'm better at kicking, or slamming, or ramming, or throwing. Yes, I have had a chance to do some of these things.
haha I have had to do all of the above at some point and no Im not some thug that goes looking for fights. I haven't had one in years but when I was younger I had a few, things just happen sometimes.

To answer the OP, I think most men at some point will punch someone else in the face. Its a natural reaction in moment of intense rage or self defense, although most of the time a punch thrown with all that adrenaline behind it, isn't the best thing to do ever. It can lead to broken fingers and hands. Faces and skulls are hard and a miss gives an opponent an instant upper hand.

In the self defense situation (say in a pub and a guy just goes you out of nowhere), the best defense if a swift punch to the guts, then tackle to the ground. Once on the ground, its up to you how far you want to take it. If you can while a top, a hard elbow to the centre of the chest will render them winded in in a sort of 'shock' state for a bit. These sound brutal but in a situation where you don't know the person you are fighting, it crucial to get instant dominance and the upper hand. I wouldn't do any of this stuff if it were with say a fight with a family member. They are more 'throw a few haymakers and end up in an awkward wrestling match'.
Oh, I'm not Thuggy McFisthappy either. I'm just giving an accurate account of my preference in things.

A few times, in anger. Not in years though. I hated the feeling that I wasn'tdoing any harm so regrettably I'd keep hitting harder.

Nope, I have no strength in my arms. If I was pissed at someone I'd trip them, and you don't get in trouble for doing that.
