OT: No and there are basically no circumstances wherein I would consider punching anyone.

Well hey, you learn something new every day. Suppose i'll have to go for a gut shot next time. Thanks man.
You can cause internal bleeding and kill someone by hitting them in the stomach. There are lots of solid organs down there which can be damaged from blunt force trauma and cause someone to bleed out and die in very short order. There are also a variety of symptoms that you can't account for, for instance an appendicitis that has not manifested itself painfully yet can still be popped by you punching them. If it pops it will spread infection through out their whole body and they will have between 1-3 hours left to live.

You should never punch anyone ever unless you are willing to accept the possibility and consequences that you could very well kill them in doing so.
Depends on how hard you're willing to hit them. If you don't throw a massive punch into the stomach the chances of actually damaging an organ is pretty low. I'd also have to be extremely unlucky if I managed to hit someone with, say, your example of appendicitis.

I'm fully expecting a scoff as a reply, but its perfectly possible to wind someone safely. That being said, in my edit of my first post, I did say I seem to find myself in less and less situations where its needed that I hit someone. I'd rather avoid it if I can.

Yeah, I was in a few fights when I was in highschool. My upper body strength has always been abysmal so when I have punched someone it hasn't done much damage. I thankfully haven't been in a fight since I was 15, not sure if the assholes in my part of the world mellowed out or maybe I'm just better at avoiding them now.

Yes. I have. It was in self-defence, because the guy had me in a head-lock, so I punched him in the ear. And that was the end of that.

No, it's inefficient, it hurts you, and I could have them on the floor faster then I could punch them. I don't really fight though, I can run very fast and usually jump around with my hands up in the air yelling "come at me bro" over and over when someone is actually trying to fight me.

I can't remember it myself, but a friend of mine did insist that I once pushed a kid to the ground, jumped on him with my knees and proceeded to hit him with a sort of hammering motion with both arms. I was 5 at the time, allegedly.

Oh, you just reminded me! Aww, nostalgia. I was, what, 3, 5, not sure, I just moved to a new neighborhood, and the kids there didn't really like my 3 years older brother, for some reason. Now, I don't quite remember if this one kid, same age as my brother, attacked my brother or just made fun of him, but what I do remember is charging at him (I was half his size, though I was fat so I had mass :p ), slamming him to the ground, and as I sat on him I threw a flurry of blows to his face. He went of crying. Such a sweet memory ^_^

Also, at that age, I was somewhat known for having strong punches, and I hit a couple of other kids in the stomach because they literally asked for it.

Other than that, no. I can't bring myself to hit people with the intention to hurt or cause damage. If provoked enough, I guess I would defend myself, but I've known to take a couple of hits without retaliating. I've trained ninjutsu a couple of years back, for half a year, and the first thing I was thought was to avoid fights if it's possible. Though, I'm more likely to attack someone if they're picking on someone else. I can't stand bullying. Insults are less annoying than flies for me, though, again, I might do something if they were directed at a loved one.

I first really punched someone in grade 1 so I was seven or eight. He was this grade six kid who at the time seemed huge but probably wasn't and another kid in my class had sort of sent him after me. First the boy from my class kicked me in the crotch with these steel toed cowboy boots which hurt a lot. Then the grade six kid held me up against the chain link fence by my neck. I was a little kid and I was pretty sure I was gonna die so I flailed out with a few wild punches, I remember that he wasn't very impressed, then I got really angry the way little kids get with their faces all screwed up like they're gonna cry and I gave him a jab in the throat.

The look on his face, I'll never forget. His eyes went really wide and he let go of me immedietly. Then he started making this gross noise kind of rasping and wet, then he grabbed at his throat just sort of looked at me and ran away, the kid from my class went running after him. I got really scared after that, I found out later he was okay but in that moment I thought I'd killed him. And I could have by accident killed some kid, at seven. I've always tried to avoid fighting if I could after that. It just never seems worth the trouble and there are always concequences or there have been for me.

The only other time I got into a serious fight where I really wanted to hurt someone was in highschool when these two guys jumped me at a bus stop and I threw one of them into oncoming traffic. He didn't get hurt, only because the car stopped in time. So that whole staying out of fights thing hasn't always worked.

Broke my middle school bully's nose with a text book when I was in grade 9. 1 week suspension. SO WORTH IT. Too bad about fifteen others took his place in high school...

In a real fight? Surprisingly no.

The closest thing to a fight I ever got into was when I pushed a kid into the lockers where he slammed face first. He got up and was more in shock and half heartedly pushed me back before he got up and we both just kind of walked away. I had just assumed that he had gotten caught off guard over the fact that I had done anything. People were surprised because I apparently had been labeled the kid that "never fought back" at my school. It was liberating. And that sort of marked the end of me getting bullied early in my life.

Lesson? Always fight back.

But, uh... I got off track. No, I've never really hit someone because most of my fights are usually stopped by the other person right before they happen. I've punched both my brothers with the intent to hurt. My little brother generally falls over crying, and then I used to get the crap beaten out of me by my older brother.

I haven't been in many fights myself, though when I was 10 I had my back against the wall by a bully. With no other avenue, I went for a right hook to his face. It wasn't a particularly hard punch (I had a weak punch back then), but he didn't try that again after that.

Last time I had to was a few years back. Some guy named Mike was always trying to start shit with me, one day I had enough when he threw something at me. My fist met his face and I followed through until his head met the wall.

He was out of it after one hit, so I just left; he never bothered me after that.

Never threw a punch. It's far too risky for my fingers. That's why I stick to open palm strikes.

If I lived in a time or place where I could do it without being charged for assault by the crybaby's who make up our society? You betcha.

As it is, I would have to do it in self defense... and somehow no one in my life has ever yet seen me and thought it would be a good idea to start something: a few times they have made me wish they would.

I have of course punched people during sparring matches, but obviously not with the intent to cause damage.

Edit: also I find it funny that a lot of people are saying you will hurt your hand. You absolutely will... but, only if you do it wrong.

I've been attacked before and responded with violence, most effective means of dissuading further attacks I should add.

More times than I can count, a good punch can really break an opponent of course a bad punch can really break you. I much prefer to get the elbow in but if the cops catch you doing that its instant aggravated assault. NZ law is stupid like that, you can't even use open palm strikes. We do anyways of course :p

I have. I punched someone when she pushed me too far - literally; she was getting violent and shoving me around. I'm a quiet kind of woman, but if I feel cornered, I tend to lash out. I ended up giving her a black eye, and she never bothered me again.

Nope, I have no strength in my arms. If I was pissed at someone I'd trip them, and you don't get in trouble for doing that.
You don't need much arm strength to throw a good punch. It's more how you control your body weight. (Aimed towards people who don't know how to throw an actual punch x).)

Yes, once. One time. I punched one guy one time in the head and he fell down. That's really the only fight you have to get in to make people not mess with you.
