First, let me say this is the first thread I've made here. I searched the forums and as far as I can tell, no such topic exists. Anyways, on to the subject at hand:

Most of us are no stranger to frustration. Gaming can be a cruel mistress, and even the most cool-headed have probably rage quit a game before.

However, what I'm interested in is real life. You no longer have that veil of anonymity, so rage quitting your job or a sports team or any other activity can have a greater impact on your life. You can't necessarily just jump back into the game. So, has anyone ever rage quit something in real life? Is there ever a time when it's justified? What were the consequences?
Well as in games when i rage quit i usually throw my character off a cliff .... no, no i havent

I'm a very calm person, it takes a whole lot to make me snap. That being said, I've never rage quit anything yet.

Most recently trying to learn doing my newly grown long hair.
I threw the comb at the floor in rage and hit my toe with it, resulting in me with no fancy hairdo, a sore toe and a comb broken in two...

I Rage quitted my job a couple years ago. Paid nicely, 13 dollars an hour, I spent 3 hours a day at a Naval base Preschool, and 2 youth centers. Upon me filing a complaint against one of the owners family for not doing her job (AT ALL, she just sat on her ass for 3 hours a day eating chips and listening to music... literally) they decided it was pay back time. My job was cleaning bathrooms so they started cutting our supplies more and more (Mostly wash clothes that I needed for the bathrooms) and hitting me for ANYTHING (Soap on the back pipes of the toilet, using the same wash cloth repeatedly among toilets (Their fault) etc) until finally one of my boss' bosses (My lowest ranked boss I liked, half the time while working me and her would discuss why road rash should be brought back XD) came to me with a big grin on her face, handed me the report, and said due to my scores, I would have to spend 8 hours on both saturday and sunday for training each week until they improve, to which I got in her face, said "FUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKK.... YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU" clocked out and left.

I've never rage quit in my life (to the best of my memory) because I hate it when other people rage quit on me. I'll take my beating and move on (for instance I just got clobbered in a recent Scrabble game, 350-150).

The funniest example of rage-quitting that I've seen was a game of Risk against my brother and a couple of others. My brother is very gifted at Risk and wins most of the games my friends and I have played against him. Well, on this occasion I saw that he was secretly building his defenses and preparing for a strike, so I attacked him and dented his forces a little. Everyone else took my cue and suddenly it was a 5 on 1. My brother's forces were obliterated in three turns. Well he was none too happy, so he picked up the board, chucked it against the fridge, screamed a bit, and left in a tizzy. Needless to say we all got a good laugh out of that one.

I was at this small chess tournament. Now I was having a pretty bad day thus far and my concentration was split. I played terribly. I wasn't mad because I lost, I was mad that I was doing stupid things that I shouldn't have been doing. Needless to say I rage quit that so damn fast.

Sometimes i'd rage quit a game for fucking me over for the uncountableth time. Then i'd calm down and try again thinking "this shit won't beat me!".

The same pretty much holds true for real life.

Once upon a time there was a young man who volunteer'd at the special Olympics... Five minutes in the tard he had been working to train for four months picked up the javelin and looked as though he could not decide whether to throw it or pick his gnarled, misshapen teeth with it. Needless to say, I don't think that rage quit is a powerful enough word to describe the anger that ensued, I don't think I have to tell you that Chunky Joe didn't get his fruit snacks.

Yes, a job. By last boss was a psycho and very abusive. So I told him to go fuck himself. He was always screaming in everyone's faces and screwing with our hours/schedule. What a mess it all was. The problem was that he was a small business owner so he was the manager as well. We couldn't go to anyone as no one was above him. Oh well. Otherwise it was a good job. :(

Rage quit with a personal trainer a couple years back. Constantly I was told to do things I felt ridiculous doing and every time I asked why it was "Hey you want to play football don't you?" and then I'd get more stupid shit to work on. I kept going because I wanted to get in shape and felt that football was the only option 'cause ain't no way I would be able to see the personal trainer again and again. Finally I snapped realizing that I didn't want to play football I wanted to get in shape, to be fit, to be healthy. I expressed this with a shouting match...that probably coulda gone better.

Didn't end up badly though, it's 5 years later and I'm lighter, faster, and stronger than ever before.

Yep.

I was underpaid by about 7 grand, put upon constantly and was expected to work from home in the evenings without extra pay. I had a huge row with my new boss (two levels up from me) which culminated in me criticizing his management style and saying that it was partly his fault the the previous company he'd worked for had failed (ITV Digital). I told him to fuck himself, walked out and went home. I was coaxed back by my other boss (one level up from me).

Then some twat hit my car in the car park and didn't own up to it. So I sent an e-mail to the entire company (including directors) telling them to all go fuck themselves. I was out of the door and home within 15 minutes......and on the phone to HR telling them to just keep the fucking holiday pay and I wouldn't go back!

I haven't worked in an office since. It's all about who you know, not what you know. The politics were a waste of my time.

Not much of a rage quit, but I was really mad when I had to leave my karate group:

a) almost everyone I liked left, because:
b) the price jumped by about 65% - from 40 PLN to 65 PLN. And that's quite some money.
c) the most important factor - my physician forbade me doing anything that intense. And also running, and weight-lifting.

Eh.
