(Does doing a parody of a popular songs to get internet famous still work in this day and age? If so, and if you want to be internet famous, there's your answer. I always thought its a cheap way to get fame but fame is fame.)

Probably not, especially if I have to be filmed. But if something I enjoy as a hobby got accidentally famous on internet, that'd be pretty cool.

What, and spend half the time on damage control mode? No thank you.
Generally speaking I don't covet fame, I just want the money that's supposed to come with it.
This is basically my answer. I want the kind of money that Pewdiepie supposedly makes. I'm really interested in the idea of putting up gameplay videos and making video reviews. It's something that I'd love to try if I had the money for the equipment but I'm an unknown, so I can't exactly set up my Patreon page quite yet. Like somebody else said though, my big fear wouldn't so much be the work involved but the idea that I would constantly have to be in damage control mode. It's one thing to post an entry on the Gamer Sins thread here in the forums but revealing that I had more fun with Sonic 06 than I did with any of the Genesis games could get me weird death threats. Of course that wouldn't be a terrible price to pay...I'd be doing something I love and be able (nay, encouraged) to attend conventions...

I'm torn on the idea I guess...leaning more towards a 'yay' than a 'nay'

As an artist I really wanted my work to take off and get some notoriety and some form of recognition, but it has dawned on me that you can either be A) a Popular Artist on the Internet or B) one employed at a company (game developer, graphic designer, etc).

As popular artist on the web draw Anime, fan-art, T&A or a mix of all three for the tripple threat, or also known as 'will never hold down an actual creative job'. It's only really Manga artist's that can draw T&A and still have a "job" so to speak.

So yeah, gave up on any internet fame when drawing boobs got to feel shallow and token. That's when you know life has killed a hobby, when boobs become boring.

Noooo I'm just bitter and cynical; deviantArt has some REALLY crappy fangirls, even by, like, crappy fangirl standards. Also I'm inwardly seething with jealousy that my sister's more popular than me though all she draws is cats and wolves.
I was wondering what kind of stuff she does....is it fury? its fury isn't it?

I've been wanting to actually post stuff to deviant art if/when I get good enough

Nope.

But I would be all for making a living doing a webshow where I essentially give my opinion on nerd culture. Which would then translate to becoming internet famous. I'd be doing the show for the money first, for fun second, and anything else beyond that would probably be a mix of good and bad.

I'd imagine the cool thing about internet fame is that you meet a lot of great new people and you might make a positive change in people's lives. The bad thing is that people actually care about what you think. Suddenly everything you say in any setting is up for criticism and can be used to attack your character for years to come. You'll have to endure endless hate, negativity and probably quite a few death threats.

Pretty sure I'm not thick skinned enough to handle any level of fame.

Do I get money? Can I leverage said internet fame into more money? If the answers are even 'Yes' and 'Maybe' then sign me up for internet famous.

Hell fucking no.

The minute you become famous you have everyone imaginable looking at you and judging everything you do and say. I would go absolutely insane if that happened.

I'm just happy generally getting almost exclusively upvotes on my posts/comments. I'm making someone laugh at least. I just wouldn't want the attention/scrutiny that comes from being internet famous.

Depends on what kind of famous and how much. I'd like to famous for something dignified and just famous enough that I get a little respect and props every once in a while, but not so much that I get harassed. Maybe like Retsupurae levels of famous.

The money, maybe.

But, honestly, it sounds awful.

There are simply far too many crazy people on the internet who would make it their job to demonise you for whatever opinion they disagree with.

No way. Haha. I really don't envy celebrities and famous people at all. Well, I do envy their financial situations, and the fame, fortune and bitches that comes with it (perhaps not that last part with internet fame..) but certainly not the pressure and constant (and often vicious) criticism they receive. I wouldn't say I'm entirely thin-skinned, but I know all that daily abuse would just fuck me right over and get me down before long. I couldn't handle it.

Yeah.

I know I wouldn't be able to handle it, and would probably see the whole thing come crumbing down in a matter of weeks, but the thought of being celebrated for my skills is one I have on numerous occasions.

Like other people have been saying, I certainly wouldn't mind being able to quit my day job so that I could write reviews or do videos or something and get paid for it, but I have no desire to "be known" and recognized. As many know people on the Internet can be fucking nuts, and you will be held to task for the slightest thing. Having a Twitter helps with promotion and it's probably a proven fact by this point that Twitter either brings out the worst in people or shows them in the worst possible light forever.

Apparently the recognition itself is something that there's a rat race for. When my daughter was born I was accused 100x times of "having a baby in order to have 15 minutes of Internet fame". I sincerely hope that nobody truly brings a human life among us all and signs up for a lifelong responsibility so that people on the Internet can know them.

I used to, then I realised I don't have the ability to hold a camera's or audiences attention for too long on my own. (I also found this when I did stand up, my routine would have people who read it laughing, but I'm just not a performer really. So I now help a few comedian mates with their routines instead)

What did I do instead? Well I'm an artist and concept guy, so I help out on a few podcasts, give them the formatting, help them with their presentation and in general help them be more professional... I've become... THE CONSULTANT!

Every so often though I'll guest in one of the casts.

Which begs the question, in this modern age, knowing what we know now... how would a modern version of the Truman Show be? :O

Holy hell no.

OH DEAR GOD NO!!!!

You have to put up with all the trappings of fame (people bugging you on the street, crazy fans pestering you, etc.) while getting no where near the amount of money that a normal celebrity would receive. I could be wrong in this but there also seems to be a TON more work to become (and stay) internet famous.

Not to mention how freaking insane people are on the internet and how quickly they'll turn on you when you say the wrong thing...or when you say the right thing...or when you say nothing...
I will remember your name now tippy...Before you know it, I will have gathered with me a following for you, and we will all hold you to the standard of saying what we all feel, and doing what we like! And if you don't....oh if you don't, we will come down on you until you are sobbing in the shower...You don't know it, but we will own you, and The doll will dance for us, and move when we want it to move...dance puppet! DANCE!

Title says it. Have you Escapist users wanted to be famous on the internet?

I most definitely have(and still kind of dream of it). I used to make videos with friends, try and start streaming, let's plays, animation, podcasts, shorts, whatever. Nothing ever really worked, my most notable entry being a 30 minute long podcast of my friends and me rambling on about nothing, half of it saying we should edit the other half out.

What about you guys?
There was a time when I was internet famous. Then I had a meltdown, got banned from the site, and lost it all. My breakdown was entirely related to personal issues, but it spilled over onto the internet, which caused my decline just as surely as Britney Spears or Whitney Houston, and just as fatally as the latter.

Don't bother being internet famous, it doesn't mean anything and it doesn't matter.

I'm in the early stages of making an attempt at it.

Honestly, though, the commenters here who don't think it's a good idea are probably correct.

Fame, of any kind, opens you up to all kinds of abuse. And you'd better hope you're strong enough to cope. XD

(I'm not sure I actually am, but... Eh.)

Still, it is what it is.
I'm doing youtube videos as much out of boredom as anything else...
