Poll: Have you Given Up On Half-Life 2: Episode Three (Half-Life 3)?

Yes. Half Life 2 and its subsequent episodes weren't that great, and I doubt that Episode 3 will be as good as them. Which is a bad sign.

Half-Life 2 was great, but I do agree that the episodes were a bit lacking. Besides, the Source engine is just way too old. I know that great things can be done with it, but Portal 2 just doesn't compare (not just graphics-wise, but in just about every aspect) to the Unreal 3 and CryEngine 3 and many other engines that have come out in the almost 10 years since Source first came out.

I mean, compare Portal 2 to this level that was made by some guy with the Unreal 3 engine.

I thought it was pretty obvious at this point that valve is probably working on a new engine for ep3/HL3. assuming they plan to continue the series, which I do.
My money is that the new engine will see release with the next console generation.

Duke Nukem Forever isn't really the same thing, as that was a ridiculously poorly handled development mess. VALVE hasn't even announced episode 3 yet so chances are it's just playing its cards smart by establishing and maintaining other game properties so they don't end up beating half life into a dead horse.
And all the while giving time for a new engine so the next episode can blow our minds as much as the others did in their prime.

I reckon they're building some new awesome engine like they did between HL1 and HL2. Perhaps they're also waiting for new technology that hasnt even been released. If they really wanted to make HL3 using what they already have, it would have been done :/
When it does get round to coming out, they better remake HL1, opposing force, blue shift ... and the rest with the same engine. I'm sure Gabe will make a box set for a few extra bucks anyway xD
Defiantly wont be preordering it due to hype like Portal 2 or Duke Nukem Forever. I've learnt my lesson :|

Nah it'll be done, I think Valve just understand the task ahead of them. They know that the Half Life formular has aged since 2004 and they realise how much work needs to be done to give the series the finale it deserves. It was certainly never going to be done satisfactorally in an episode.

I'm content to wait. There are other games to take my interest, other things to do. When things start coming out about it I'll be excited but for now I'm happy to just let it be.

This. Stop being so butthurt guys. The game will come out when it comes out, probably with some new technology as well. Good games take time. Other then DNF(Which was horrible for a great number of reasons), every game that has taken 5+ years to be made has being amazing. Patience is something that has disappeared nowadays.

We've waited almost four years and there is still not one word about the next episodic release to a game that was an episode that ended on a cliffhanger. If you're still waiting patiently and without complaint, your patience is mother fucking zen-like times Jesus. It would be easier to beat a polar bear at arm wrestling than to wait patiently for Episode III at this point. I'm not exactly sweating over this, but how long are Half-Life fans supposed to wait? At what point does impatience become righteous anger? Ten years? Twenty?

Because it isn't going to be episodic, it is going to be Half life 3. They stopped the episodic content because it was a bad idea, it caused their games to not be the quality they wanted. It took 6 years for Half life 2 to come out after 1, so I expect it to be around the same. If there is still nothing after that, then I will get mad, but there is no need for it now. People jump to conclusions way to fast. Valve have always not released much content about their games, it isn't unusual for them to do that. The last time they did major announcements they had to delay Half life 2 for a year and a half, you want that again?

Pretty much my stance on this. Getting worked up over it is just a waste of energy. I'm not going to speculate on how good/bad it will be either. So I'll leave it at that.

ok but WHAT IF valve keeps it's track record of making amazing games and people love it? i know haters gonna hate, but that's hardly an issue specific to half life.

I'm a fan of Half-Life, have been since the original came out when I was a kid. But now I'm grown up, moving on to bigger and better things, joining the military and all that, basically having a life of my own. I don't have time to just patiently wait for Valve to get around to finishing a third of a game. Frankly, I don't think it's fair to the fans to draw it out like this. Valve is known for high quality games but their production cycle is stupidly long.

Well its lucky duke wasn't shit, just average then wasn't it. Which is what half life has and always will be.

Peoples expectations blew it right out of the water, the same will happen to HL3

I imagine that if they ever do release HL3 some many many years down the road (It's not coming out any time in the next few years), all the fans will be in up in arms about it not living up to their wildly insanely madly inflated bloated absurd expectations.

Which will be Valve's own fault for taking so long to make it, really.
