Been playing it for the past 2 1/2 days with little to no sleep. Even having a party yesterday that went into today JUST to play it with 8+ of my fellow peers. Thank Reggie for that GC adaptor...
Basic Verdict: It's smash, it's fun, I like smash, therefore I like fun.
Complex Verdict: Having some alone time with it, and several hours of discussion with my friend over it, this is without a doubt the best Smash in the series from a gameplay and somewhat content stand point. I say somewhat content since Smash Tour is incredibely stale in comparison to the 3DS's Smash Run. But to get back on point, it's finally balanced! There is room for casual play, there is room for competitive play, no accidental successes like wave dashing, nor intentional bullshit like tripping. Everything feels thought out and just overall complete this time around. There's some neat new editions to the combat like a new meta of ledge guarding and finally having the option for an aggressive play style that Brawl just couldn't do. And the roster... well, it's great. That's a given.
My only real complaints are that the online is a just a tad bit iffy, WAY BETTER THAN BRAWLS, CAUSE WHEN IT WORKS, BOY DOES IT WOOOORK. But there are times when lag effects button inputs on top of just bad connection moments that can screw over perfectly smooth momentum (Special mention to inevitable universal ban fear... it's only a matter of time till dumb bans happen; lel targeting players). And the huge plethora of music is hit or miss. Hit and that, yay! there's a lot of music and the new stuff is either really good or old stuff that deserved to come back is back.
Miss in that there are certain remixes that have some of the worst transition work I have ever heard...
Otherwise it's a great game, I will certainly not be putting this down for the next few months and am hoping to see where it goes in the future... but good lord Nintendo, pls fire the guy who lazily cropped and pasted some of this music together.
