The only friend I 'lost' to drugs was impressionable in his youth due to his (fucking atrocious) upbringing and so he clung to any sort of affection or attention he could get. It made him the class clown until he fell in with a crowd that turned him into their own little pet monkey to run around doing 'dares' that would get him in trouble. He eventually just completely went awry and ended up stealing an old lady's purse, throwing himself through a window, and eventually taking so many drugs (I have no idea what kind) that one time we met in the street a couple of years after we drifted apart and he had no idea who I was.

Bear in mind I'd been his only friend for three years.

It was sad seeing him drift off like that, but I honestly could see it coming a mile off - he was far too easily lead.

I've lost plenty of friends and family to drugs. My mother died because of years of heroin abuse. A couple friends died in my teen years because they OD'd on heroin, a couple acquaintances died from other drugs I was never told about.

And not counting deaths I've seen a few friends pick up crack and meth. They were all sober and mostly good kids. No idea why they started using but most of them didn't last long after they started.

I immediately cut off contact with them after they started using though. I had enough of that shit in my life because of my half dealer, half addict family and I sure as hell didn't need it from my friends.

I refuse to associate myself with people who do drugs or operate outside of my morals. I tolerate them at work because of workplace cohesion but I will never, ever hang out with them or do anything with them outside of work.

I consider them weak minded and below me... which probably explains why I have so few friends.. but hey, its lonely at the top.

I tend to steer clear of anyone doing anything heavier than marijuana or gratuitous amounts of caffine. Neither of which have had any effects on these peoples life styles.

Smoking (tabacco) has severely damaged my parents health and life expectancy. I abhor it only for that reason and try to dissuade people from it without being too nagging.

I don't know how I would deal with someone I care about on harder drugs. I'm a pretty firm person and can deal with being hated as long as the person is out of jeopardy. Probably drag them to rehabilitation in some manner. Again I hang around fairly sound minded people... hard drugs is mostly out of their spectrum of behaviour but I guess you never know.

Can't say that I've ever lost any good friends to drugs but back in college I lost plenty of drugs to good friends.
I... I'm so sorry. Nobody should have to go through that.

OT: One of my friends has started doing pot every now and then.

I like him much better now. It's relaxed him.

I have lost friends, but worse family. Both of my parents where addicts and it destroyed there lives and damaged the ones around them as well. All it has taught me is that my mind and body are the most important things I have in this world and I don't wanna do anything to jeopardize them. One thing I learned is that you can't do anything to help them but be there when they're ready to help themselves, right now I'm losing my sister to them which is unbelievable considering what we saw growing up.It's tough watching the ones you care about go down that road but even trying to help them you may find yourself following them down that road.I don't mean using but getting caught up in the turmoil involved in traveling down the road of drug abuse. The will and the discipline to get better has to be up to the individual.
