Poll: Have you now or have eve been "that guy" at a movie?

Y'know,"that guy," one of the few people who decided to read the source material for comic book or novel movie and than grief to your friends about it?

Say for example, it's safe to say that everyone here still watches cartoons and that by association, watched a few episodes of Avatar: the last Airbender. If you did than decided to see the movie you'd most likely be going,"wait the fire nation wasn't Indian, they were Japanese," or,"there were no black people in the earth kingdom," or maybe even,"why are Katara and Sokka white," and even,"why does it take so many movements to do one thing?" And obviously you will be pissed. Or even Halo: Legends and they decided to make Dr.Hasley young and blonde(SHE'S NOT BLONDE JAPAN, SHE HAS BALVK AND GRAY BECAUSE SHE'S OLD!!!)

If your not "that guy" all the time than you were at least once in your life. I was "that guy" when I gathered all my friends to go see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I was going,"that didn't happen," and,"that's not how Gideon dies or his power," and,"why are the twins djs?" and trying to get my friends to know what really went on, so later that night I went,"Oh God I'm that guy..." Kinda sucked, but I like SP too mug for his legend to be tarnished(and wheres my sequel at, in comic terms and maybe anime if Japan takes it). So, have you ever been that guy? If so when and during what?

As far as I remember I only did this kind of thing once. And that was for The Last Airbender. Personally, I would care less what ethnicity the actors are, but as soon as I heard they way they pronounced "Aang" (Aw-ng) I found myself saying out loud: "You mean Aang?" (Ahh-ng) Seriously, that bugged me for the entire movie. My brother in law, who I was watching the movie with, explained that that's an Asian name, and that's how it would normally be pronounced. Whether or not that's true, I still find it really annoying how disloyal it was to it's source material.

The only time I can think of doing it myself is with the movie of the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I've watched the 80's TV version of it, listened to tapes of the radio version and read the books: all of them change the story to some degree but none as much as that film, they messed up or missed out lots of the good bits, included a pointless subplot and what the hell did they do to Zaphod's second head? Oh and why was Marvin's head so bloody large? [/fanboy rant]

i would be like that for The Last Airbender film as i love the series but it's because i love the series i am not watching the film. i know people who have seen it who saw the series and, from what i've heard, it will annoy me to no end

When I went to see the Eragon movie.

Granted, the books are a little cliche, but I enjoyed the first two when I was younger (haven't read the third book, and I don't really plan to).

The movie was absolutely terrible. Not even Jeremy Irons could save it.

I made all my friends aware of it, too.

God, that probably pissed me off the most about Halo: Legends. It's like Japan has a pathological fear of depicting older women as compelling characters or something (of course I could be wrong about that seeing as I haven't seen much anime, but that's how it seems to me).

I was like that about Star Wars back in the day. I knew all the stats for the various ships and equipment and whatnot. I eventually gave up when the prequels and Expanded Universe novels shat all over the previously established canon.

Nowadays I obsess over historical accuracy. If they're using the wrong vehicles and weapons in a war movie I notice. If the fashion is wrong I notice. If the expressions and language is wrong I notice.

Fortunately most of my friends and relatives are genuinely interested in what I have to say, though I probably go a bit too far at times.

Only when the liberties that were taken were egregious and unnecessary. E.g. the abominable League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie. Also, for the record, the people bitching about the race thing in Last Airbender can STFU, because the show was American, not Japanese, and it's set in an imaginary world, so the characters are not necessarily Asian.

Just on the case of Halo Legends, and I say this as a self-confessed Halo fanboy who's read and seen every part of the backstory aside from two of the graphic novels (due to funds) and about half the anime (since I've not got around to watching my DVD copy yet), but I have seen 'The Package'. And there is absolutely no reason Halsey can't be young and hot and blonde. The graphic novels and timing of the series shows she was pretty hot in her youth (she does look like Cortana, and her daughter Miranda, after all), and although she'd have been in her forties by the events of The Package (according to the official stated episode timing) she'd biologically be younger due to temporal aberrations from Slipspace travel, plus cryo-sleep during space travel (both confirmed by the canon, it's also how Sgt. Johnson looks like he's in his sixties and fighting fit despite being canonically in his eighties). And as for the hair colour, she could have dyed it, you know.

And on that note, yes, I am occasionally 'that guy', but only on certain things that I'm a bit of a fanboy of. Doctor Who and Torchwood, for example. Or Halo. Though I do try and make an active effort to not be 'that guy' too much, but still...

I have never been "That Guy" for anything, ANY sort of "That Guy" moment. I have been "The guy who kicks ass". I have been "That awesome guy who helps people out.". And on occasion, I have been "A right bastard". But all of these are different from being "That Guy".

In my defense of being "That Guy," which I try very hard not to be, I get asked about stuff by friends before the movie. I don't go out of my way to greif anyone but sometimes its just a side-effect of far too much usless information.

Nope. I have the potential to be that guy, but once I got into anime/manga/video games/graphic novels, I pretty much lost all interest in going to the movies.

GODDAMNIT. It still pisses me off! The books were amazing and could've had the whole series as films, IF THEY DIDN'T RUIN IT.
There are too many stupid changes, I don't think I'll even try starting.

On a lesser extent, How to Train your Dragon.
Fantastic film, I admit, but why did they have to change so much.. Couldn't they have called it something different, and put the actual plot of the books into the proper version?

I have never been THAT 'That guy'. But I have been the one in the group at the back who improve the entire experience for everybody else in the theater.

I went to see Legion with my friends - Horrible movie. Absolutely nothing to recommend it but the massive amount of opportunities to make fun of it. By the end of the movie the entire theater was laughing at our jokes that you couldn't even hear the movie. It was awesome.

It was like opening day, too, full theater, and there may have been like two people at max who were pissed that we were making noise.

But when it comes to a source material, I'll notice the difference and just pass it off as a creative decision to go that route.
