Yeah, I'm a history buff so watching say Braveheart, or Kingdom of Heaven, or Robin Hood, is a real pain in the ass for people around me

The only time I can think of doing it myself is with the movie of the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I've watched the 80's TV version of it, listened to tapes of the radio version and read the books: all of them change the story to some degree but none as much as that film, they messed up or missed out lots of the good bits, included a pointless subplot and what the hell did they do to Zaphod's second head? Really? The "massive changes" involve Marvin's (not Malvin - zing!) design? Its a film, they have to cut some stuff out in comparison to a book, radio and television series. It was pretty close to the version I've read, and as you said, they all vary.

I do that to all of my friends at Marvel comics movies, and I did it to the Scott Pilgrim movies too...I guess I'm just "that guy" period.

Before going to see Alien Resurrection I found an early draft of the script online. When I went to see the actual film a lot had been changed - in particular the hybrid went from an enormous blood sucking monster to a travesty that required "Digital Genital Removal" and had mommy-issues.

I believe this is the only time I've approached "that guy"

GODDAMNIT. It still pisses me off! The books were amazing and could've had the whole series as films, IF THEY DIDN'T RUIN IT.
There are too many stupid changes, I don't think I'll even try starting.

I agree completely I was going wtf the whole movie it had a couple moments from the books and some characters but it's not Cirque du Freak damnit

Spelling error corrected, thank you. I admit the changes to Zaphod and Marvin wasn't the biggest mistake the movie (though they were mistakes) made, the additional subplot which I can't even remember now since it was more than 5 years ago but I know it wasn't good.

When I went to go see X men 3 I was yelling "Juggernaut is not a mutant"! Or when I went to see Spiderman 3 I was yelling "Eddie Brock is bigger that Peter Parker"!! Those were about it... Well... When I saw FF4 ROTSS I was yelling when they showed that stupid cloud "That's not Galactus"! That's about it.

If I've read the book, I'll rip the film to shreds, there are very few films that beat the book imo and it annoys me that a director doesn't make an adaptation exactly how I would want it damnit!!

Twice. The two towers and return of the king ( read lotr only after seeing the FotR) there have been many times I've disagreed with a movie on relation to source material but almost always I just sit there and remain quiet.

Yeah a few times over harry potter. Although we've all read the books, so it was a group of us sat there in an almost empty cinema at the back, chuckling away.

Granted, the books are a little cliche, but I enjoyed the first two when I was younger (haven't read the third book, and I don't really plan to).

The movie was absolutely terrible. Not even Jeremy Irons could save it.

I made all my friends aware of it, too.

You know a movie sucks when the voice of Scar doesn't help. And god, did that movie suck.

OT: Yeah, guilt of this for Scott Pilgrim. While it stayed pretty damn loyal, the last three books hadn't been finished at time of filming, so it was a bit different at the end. Damn good movie though.

Fellowship of the Ring was missing entire chapters, but I don't have any friends that didn't already know that. If these live action anime adaptations I keep hearing about ever get finished I'll have a few rounds as that guy.

Y'know,"that guy," one of the few people who decided to read the source material for comic book or novel movie and than grief to your friends about it?

Say for example, it's safe to say that everyone here still watches cartoons and that by association, watched a few episodes of Avatar: the last Airbender. If you did than decided to see the movie you'd most likely be going,"wait the fire nation wasn't Indian, they were Japanese," or,"there were no black people in the earth kingdom," or maybe even,"why are Katara and Sokka white," and even,"why does it take so many movements to do one thing?" And obviously you will be pissed. Or even Halo: Legends and they decided to make Dr.Hasley young and blonde(SHE'S NOT BLONDE JAPAN, SHE HAS BALVK AND GRAY BECAUSE SHE'S OLD!!!)

If your not "that guy" all the time than you were at least once in your life. I was "that guy" when I gathered all my friends to go see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I was going,"that didn't happen," and,"that's not how Gideon dies or his power," and,"why are the twins djs?" and trying to get my friends to know what really went on, so later that night I went,"Oh God I'm that guy..." Kinda sucked, but I like SP too mug for his legend to be tarnished(and wheres my sequel at, in comic terms and maybe anime if Japan takes it). So, have you ever been that guy? If so when and during what?

Just on the case of Halo Legends, and I say this as a self-confessed Halo fanboy who's read and seen every part of the backstory aside from two of the graphic novels (due to funds) and about half the anime (since I've not got around to watching my DVD copy yet), but I have seen 'The Package'. And there is absolutely no reason Halsey can't be young and hot and blonde. The graphic novels and timing of the series shows she was pretty hot in her youth (she does look like Cortana, and her daughter Miranda, after all), and although she'd have been in her forties by the events of The Package (according to the official stated episode timing) she'd biologically be younger due to temporal aberrations from Slipspace travel, plus cryo-sleep during space travel (both confirmed by the canon, it's also how Sgt. Johnson looks like he's in his sixties and fighting fit despite being canonically in his eighties). And as for the hair colour, she could have dyed it, you know.

And on that note, yes, I am occasionally 'that guy', but only on certain things that I'm a bit of a fanboy of. Doctor Who and Torchwood, for example. Or Halo. Though I do try and make an active effort to not be 'that guy' too much, but still...

Yes, but in the Halo:Reach we see Hasley old and grey, the operation that took place during The Package could've either been 2 years post or pre Reach. Plus she doesn't seem like the type of woman to care about her appearance, too focused on the SPARTAN project and most likely the guilt of taking kids from their homes and molding them into super soldiers. Sure Slipstream does stuff but it only works so much, I'm gonna be pisses about Hasley's look just as I am pissed about Wolverine's look in the Marvel Japanese cartoon.
