Hello fellow Escapists! Let me just give you a little bit of background information on what prompted this topic. Today, after school, as it is the weekend I decided to take a nap to catch up on my sleep. I had a strange dream in which I was a hobo, living on the streets of a nearby large city. I would sit there for hours with my coffee mug held out, asking for change. Usually there would be nickles and dimes, and if I was lucky, a quarter here or there. But one changegivers was different from the others. He looked kind of like my real-life self. Instead of dimes, he handed me a shiny, golden coin with strange glyphs on it. It was definately foreign, but I didn't recognize the language.

The man said, "Don't try to spend this, no store will take it. Don't pawn it off or gift it or chuck it aside. It is incredibly valuable, but you'll want to keep it - the money you'd get for selling it would pale in comparisson to the things the coin will give you." Then he walked away, disappearing in the crowd. I stared at the coin for a long time, and decided to follow the advice of the man who looked like me.

Long story short, The dream ended with me becoming very successful, and thinking it was brought on by the good luck of the coin. But when it is stolen, my luck doesn't vanish - I had made my own luck. My friend pointed out that it was similar to the movie "Bruce Almighty", except without the religious mumbo-jumbo. As far as I think, it's pretty original.

My point is that I thought this whole dream was pretty cool. So cool, in fact, that I decided right then and there that I would try to adapt this into a novel. I'm only a High School (For you Brits, that means I'm in the 15-18 years old range) student, so it probably wouldn't be very good. But anything can happen, right?

So Escapists, have you ever/will you ever/are you writing a novel? Or, hell, apply this to any publishable material. Newspaper columns/artcles, poetry, short stories, prose, anything! Tell us about how the idea came to you and what it's about. Exerpts are good if you have them. Tell us about your personal Authorship Escapades. : )

Currently in the process. It's yet another vampire romance, but without cliches and Mary Sues, NO SPARKLING, the vampires do drink animal blood but are still mean ass motherfuckers when they have to be, and the premise is based around a human guy whose dead girlfriend is brought back as a vampire. It's extremely dark, original plot with a badass villain, the first female protagonist (the aforementioned girlfriend) steadily becomes more insane over the course of the book, and the second female protagonist (another vampire who teams up with the human guy) is generally quite nice but can be a bit sadistic at times. Now tell me THAT isn't the making of a good story.

I wanted to when I was younger but my old teacher told me in these exact words...

"Jamie, your ideas for stories are rubbish and you should stop writing them."

For some reason, I've had some sort of block ever since.

Oh, and if you are on this site, Ms. Dawes who worked at Overton Primary School in England.

Fuck you, you *****!

I usually write collections of stories from the same universe rather than an outright novel. I'm also working on writing and acting in skits with my friends.

Currently, I'm in the middle of writing & editing my own book that I hope to get published. (current working title Shadow of the Day) I've been working on it for about a year or so, but I wrote most of it during the last half of the summer vacation. I've showed it to a few people at my school and I girl I met at www.gaiaonline.com , and the views have largely been positive. Pretty much everyone at my school has heard that I spent the summer writing a book, so it's a bit weird to have someone walk up to you and start talking to you about it, esp. if its a teacher you don't know/like. (granted, the school has about 500 people in it but still.)

I'm also trying to figure out if I can be sued for any party of the story. (it was inspired from Perfect Dark Zero and I put in two nods/throwbacks to it in the story.)

Oh yeah, the fat skinny of the plot is 'spies 100 years in the future'. (trust me, the whole plot is a *lot* deeper than that.)

I've got a rough idea, but I don't think I'm good enough at writing filler to make something long enough to be a novel.

I did when I was 6 years old. Wrote half the book until I really got into gaming and abandoned it. The plot was something about super soldiers and human-robot hybrids who try to destroy other super soldiers and human-robot hybrids. I'm thinking of writing another book with a crapload of video game references.

I probably could. The only problem for me is simply starting it out. The one main idea I have in my head is an almost idiotic, weird tale of a world run by food, but with fastfood companies more as empires than anything. The empire that would be followed would be that of the Muffins, and they would, even against literally the entire rest of the world, persevere to stop the tyranny that was brought on by the Burger King...

Probably too many copyrights, but it'd be a hell of a tale.

Yes,I did.

It was about aliens invading a Russian town.

It was good enough.

That isn't the making of a good story. Well, you did ask.

Was that sarcasm? No offence meant, I'm just actually interested to know, because if people don't like the idea then obviously it will need changing. Note that isn't the whole plot and there's much more I haven't posted since I do't want people plagarising me or end up not reading it if it gets published because they already know the plot twists.
