Poll: Haven't you just had enough of these f*!@&ing popups?!

For the hundredth time now I have been browsing the escapist and clicked on an interesting link only to be forwarded to some site to do with ME3, or Dead Space 2, or whatever other one of those annoying ads that popup on the escapist without any warning.

Now my computer is an old dog, and often those overly intricate ads don't load immediately or simply take forever, WASTING MY FUCKING TIME! Their "Hitbox" takes up nearly half of the page, and often I have no idea the ad is even there until I click it.

Am I the only one who is sick of this bullshit? Seriously?

EDIT: Added a third option for members of the publishers club. Or at least I tried to, I'm not sure if it is actually there.

I am a publishers club member and dont have to sit through any ads. Every site has to make money somehow to make ends meet.

I am beyond sick of them, and I refuse to join the Pub Club. And they even slow down my almost brand new computer they're so large and pointless.

I don't see why the old adverts didn't work, and also, why are you advertising Mass Effect 2 constantly? That game is long released.

Adverts like this make me really annoyed because as someone who wants to work in the field of marketing I hate it when they're so obvious. Repetition like this only makes real idiots want to buy the product, because anyone with a brain will see the same image several dozen times, and it will make them so annoyed that they don't want to buy the product. Constant repetition of adverts like this achieves the exact opposite of what advertising should do.

Pro-tip, when the consumer associates the product image with being annoyed and frustrated, you're doing it wrong.

I had better not see another post like this. Not to downplay the point these posters are making. I would just prefer if this thread was not 100% "Join the Pub club". That would be borderline supporting exactly what has me so annoyed, to advertise the Pub club with a thread complaining about the ads.

Also I have no problem with ads, WHEN they stay the fuck out of my way. Put them on the banner or in the margins, or hell on the page, but do not, I REPEAT, DO NOT have them appear to command and obscure half of the goddamn page I am trying to view. Seriously, fuck that.

I have a problem with ads on my iPod. Occasionally, a large black box saying, "flash player something.something required" appears instead of the too banner ad, blocking the hot threads and login/log out buttons amongst other things. These can stick around for hours. Surely there should be a close button on these things? At least?

And I have had occasional pop up ads, such as a truly dodgy sounding survey asking about my online browsing habits. It's getting out of hand, to say the least.

I suppose the site's gotta make money if it's to continue, but pop up ads are just one annoyance too far.

I only hate the ones at the beginning of videos. Especially that chicken/iPhone one because I can't mute it and it goes on for ages. Fair enough you make your renvenue, Escapist, but at least allow me to get rid of the annoying sounds.

But on the public computers at uni, they pop up all the time... so *shrug*, don't really care, ultimately.

I've never seen any popup. I'm not in the Publisher's Club, and I've disabled Adblock for The Escapist. Maybe some new feature in Firefox 5 or something. I'm glad I don't get any popups, I hate sites using them. Why even use them? Nobody will wait for a popup to load and read the whole thing, you just close them!
