I shall try to play the demo then. the opinions on Heavy Rain are very different, and then you always have to be wary if you're in the group that likes it a lot, or the group that hates it.

Perhaps it's not very revolutionary, but only revolutionary. It's not about the quicktime events, but how the narration unfolds. You think some parts are boring, depressing, confining you too strongly? Well, the brilliant thing about it is just that. That was never done before: you have to deal with all the situational and emotional inconveniences of the case. It goes beyond being an interactive movie and approaches being an interactive experience.

Has noone here played Indigo Prophecy (That's farenheit), or shenmue or even frigging dragons lair? *snip*
I don't think so. I just assumed that Heavy Rain is an attempt to garner more mainstream intrest in adventure games.

He really played it wrong. Seriously. It was hilarious but he was in a totally wrong mindset.
Also, it starts out real slow. That can put people off.
I know he was going for comedy, but it really looks like IP all over again, which I did not have fun with. It might have been entertaining to watch someone else play and not be distracted by all the quick-timey-wimey balls, but it felt like work to me. If you dig it, then have a blast. I'm glad they made a game for you. I'll just sit over here and wait for a proper Master of Orion 3. Or a proper Shining Force.

So I'm not the only one watching Benzaie.
I was kind of disappointed we didn't get to see him stripping, or in drag.

Cam we have an option for "It's fresh"? Because I don't think it's revolutionary more like it's a breath of fresh air.

I haven't played the game yet so I don't have a real opinion, but from what I've seen of gameplay videos it kinda looks like one big quicktime event.

Mainstream interest as in not limiting the player to silly conventions of puzzles, controls and inventory? Well, big deal. I think the mainstream is more sophisticated in this case.

Hold up cowboy. Mainstream appeal isn't an inherently bad thing.

Heavy Rain is just the next step from old school point and click adventures. I recall playing an Indiana Jones adventure on my friend's old mac years and years ago... now we have HR. But, the control style is indeed fairly unique to this game. Is it a big quick time event? Yea, pretty much. But is it also revolutionary? Yea, pretty much. I've never played something quite like this before. The demo I found boring while it explained the controls but once you get used to it it's pretty decent. I look forward to playing the full version.

I hate QTE's, I like Heavy Rain. (0.o?
Well, QTE's like most everything else in games, are not ingerently bad, and can be great if done right. THis doesn't feel like a super stressful QTE that come out of nowhere. This feels more like....well, reality. If, you're not quick enough, it changes the story of the game. I remember I missed a qte during a fight and instead of insta death like I feared, my character was simply thrown through a table and took a few scratches. No biggie.
I like this game alot. It feels as though an epic Sci-Fi murder mystery movie was being made, and as a last minute thought, the producers decided to turn it into an interactive experience. *shivers* Chills ran down my spine when I played the demo. Chills.

A long arse quick-time event with no gameplay whatsoever.

Games are for interactivity! Not for pressing a button once in a while.

I think it's too early to tell, but "One big quicktime event" won't do it justice, that I think will be true, even if it is crappy.

After having played a few hours of Heavy Rain last night, I got to say I think that the controllers are integrated into the game rather seamlessly. Some of the more action filled moments (fighting, chasing/running) are nothing but pure QTEs, but at the same time they are also the first fights in a game that made me feel my adrenaline level rise for a long time.
When you are not in an intense action sequence, the controls really merge well with what is happening on screen and, at least for me, it adds a certain level of immersion.

What I meant was that I was saying it was a bad thing either.
