So we have all pirated something at one point in our lives, do not lie and say you have not done it! Whether it be games, manga, anime, films, dvds, comics, books or music it is still pirating and I have one question to ask you (well two actually but I digress) WHY did you do it? You know it is illegal, you know it is stealing oh you knew, don't act innocent! You are a thief, we all are but I just want to know why!!!

Also for other points of discussion, looking at why people pirate, how do we stop pirating since it is unfair to the developers of said product?

Oh yeah just for any interwebz police this is confidential and shall not be used against us!

Due to my lack of money, my choices were either pirate a copy of it (not stealing, copying, there is a huge difference), or not get it at all. The way I see it, I didn't do anything 'wrong', because if I didn't have the option to buy it, then I wouldn't have gotten it at all, so either way nobody is getting my money.

I did it a few times when I was younger and then it was only a few music tracks. I don't do it now on moral grounds. If I like something, I promote it by buying it.

Times i've pirated.

Unrealesed tracks and demos by Crystal Castles

No CD cracks, I can't be bothered to get up everytime and this was the only way I could get Fallout 3 to work because of securom.

Far Cry 2, because I bought the game but the whole thing refused to work because I have legitimate CD writing software on my computer that securom mistook for piracy software. It installed but wouldn't launch, and then fucking refused to uninstall! Or then reinstall at that point leaving me with half the game files permanently on my computer! So I tried downloading the game torrent but having no piror experience with piracy was unable to get that working either. So I gave up and returned the game saying it didn't work (plus the collector's edition box was fucked when it arrived, fucking postmen! ¬_¬) and got Fallout 3 instead; which didn't go down any easier if you read above... fuck.

But I don't pirate things because I can't afford them, if I can't afford something I'm not entitled to it so i don't get it. THATS LIFE. Or rather THATS CAPITALISM, perhaps you would be more happy in a communist society, but I've been reading up on Maxism and some of their shit is properly bananas.

I chose "why pay for something you can get for free?" I have a laptop that is 4 years old. It usually can't run anything new, so I download a game, confirm that it runs like crap and delete it. On those rare occasions that it actually CAN run a game, it turns out the game is crap. Seriously, I'm 100% convinced that the golden age of gaming has ended. All we get is more of the same over and over ago. No originality. Lazy work. No cookie.

I also don't buy old games, because I don't thing developers even care several years later.

I'd occasionally pirate M-rated games before I was 17 since I couldn't buy them at the store. I also pirated Vampire: Bloodlines because I could not find a copy anywhere. Troika's now nonexistent, so that doesn't really hurt anyone, does it?

For the most part, though, I do prefer to purchase games. For one thing, I feel more deserving of the community (forums, mods, patches, etc.) when the purchase was legitimate. Plus, why risk legal action against me when I can just spend $30 at the store? And hell, it's also the right thing to do.

Oh, and I would sometimes pirate music that wasn't available in the US, although now that Limewire's shut down, those days are over.

every game i have installed on my computer with out purchasing I have either go on to purchase it or delete it within an hour of getting it.
Please not the teminology used. It doesn't necessarly mean pirating.

Fair enough, I try to wait and get them on DVD but it often costs so much. I try to just scrounge the DVDs from whoever else I know has them.

But actually what I really wanted to say was, kick ass avatar dude! I'm shaving my head like Travis next week and going as him to a costume party.

I only pirate things I can't get a hold of legally or can't use for some reason or other in its normal form.

Of course, that is a quite wide spectrum, since it means I can download both the whole Rave Master manga (since Tokyopop ended the production before I could get a hold on some of the volumes) and Dark Sector (since the PC version was never released in Europe).

I did pirate some music, I think, back before I realized it was illegal.
