People who have never pirated (or who strongly speak out against it) are alien to me. Also you cant be branded a thief if you haven't stolen anything, piracy is infringement, not theft.
Its a matter of money, growing up as a kid with with no money, and not particularity wealthy parents, how could you say no to £5 a game.
Some bloke who lives a few minutes down the road used to sell games from his garage/shed, pretty much everyone would buy their games from there, even some of the police did. Eventually he got raided after years of selling pirated games and software, got away with a £2000 fine, which was probably nothing compared to what he made. Wouldn't be the case these days though.
And to those that call for us to be drawn and quartered, have you ever borrowed a cd/dvd/game? Its effectively the same, either way thats one purchase you wont be making, its the same deal with second hand purchases, so if you're going bang on about how piracy is so wrong, you might as well attack people who lend out/borrow stuff as well or anyone who buys second hand, it hurts the developer just as much.
These days most of the stuff i download i wouldn't actually buy.
But it will be a day one purchase for me when Subversion from Introversion and the Battle of Britain game from Oleg Maddox are released.
