As long as theres no vampires or zombies......any of them.
Put in a werewolf(the monstrous half man half beast kind) no the boy who turns into a wolf kind.
only in the fantasy, and the werewolf is a good idea....hmmmm

Only in the fantasy, I was thinking zombies and werewolves, but no vampires, but if they were in there, they'd be old school vampires, not this new aged twilight crap

medivasl fantasy is too common, sci-fi is dubbed as Nerds olny, but modern day thriller (like the 'Gone' series), reaches to a wider audience and increases sales, go modern day thriller

Alright, I'm wanting to start writing a book, the only problem is that I have three pretty good ideas stuck in my head, and I'm wanting a little help on deciding which one of them to write. To me, they all seem like they should be a movie or a game, but I'd try them as books. The options are:

Medieval style fantasy

Contemporary thriller

or Sci-fi
Medieval Fantasy. Out of all those, that is the one I've noticed is the most formulaic.

Do it a favor and give the concept of "Medieval Fantasy" a good twist.

I'm currently working with a few other writers to write a book series utilizing a sci-fi/fantasy setting. It's surprisingly easy, you should just be creative and use all of your ideas. =D

Thanks, knew that, but the problem is it gets a little out of hand, you know?
That's why after a few posts you take out everything that isn't the first quote code, the specific parts you're replying to (or just all of the last post) and the ending quote code, and it all works out.

Well, all of them involve a war in some way, shape or form. The fantasy is against the resurrection of an ancient deity and it's followers; the thriller, in a nutshell, is basically WWIII; and the sci-fi, is, well, still in development more or less. and sorry, should've done this earlier
Meh, don't sweat it. When it comes to writing about wars, it's all about the motives that start them. Oh and for the thriller, make the protagonist as much of a bastard as you can humanly get away with. =P

Speaking of which... what I'm writing (or at least trying to) basically is about a historic war (it's an attempt at a fictional retelling, insert romance just to see if I can do it).

Any of those are fine as long as you steer clear of angsty teens and sparkling vampires.

Oh, and include some eroticism!

I like medieval Fantasy.

I vote Sci Fi, because I'm working on a Fantasy novel myself, and I want less competition >.>

what you could do is write all 3 as short stories and bundle them all together and you can write a full fledged sequel to whatever one people like the most

Hmmm, that's actually a pretty good idea....the problem is, where to post them or where to publish them
i dunno you could go to local book stores and ask if they would carry some copies for you or you could hang flyers and just sell them from ebay or something like that i'm not sure what you would do but there's probably some creative ways you could get word around.

Write ALL the books!!!
You could switch between them, to avoid getting caught in a writers block, so while writign on one, you'll also get ideas for the others, and when you're at a place where you have a hard time continuing, just swap over ot one of the others, so while you're thinking over the first, you're not just wasting your time, but working on one of the others as well.

Well, each genre has its own unique challenges:
-For fantasy you need to make the world vividly come alive in the reader's mind, get them caught up in the mysticism and everything
-For a thriller you have to very accurately manipulate the reader's emotions (mainly anxiety, suspense etc.)
-For sci-fi you need to be able to think abstractly, and have enormous volumes of real scientific knowledge. For me, the most satisfying moments in reading sci-fi are where character A comes up with an improvised solution to a problem and is about to implement it when character B says "hey wait! You have to take X into account!" Where X is an actual scientific principle that would affect character A's actions if this were happening in real life, and upon reading this I think, "hey, you're right, character B! I never thought of that!"

The first two require you to put yourself in the reader's shoes, to anticipate exactly how someone would respond to the story if they didn't have the knowledge that you have. The third requires a lot of factual knowledge and the ability to think outside the box. The only advice I can give is to play to your strengths. Good luck!
