Hello fellow Escapists!

I started my own video game studio and we are a team of 5 developing our first title for XBLIG/Steam. We're having a hard time finding a title for our project.

The game is about a sword that must be enchanted in many ways to become strong enough to be worthy of the King. It isn't focused on the story, the hero doesn't even have a name. It's really more of an exploration game in which there are many different possibilities of sword "builds", much like character builds in RPGs. The goal is simply to start a few different games and check how the different powers combine together and test out the results in a few dungeons.

The game has a working title, which is Swordcraft, and we'd rather not call it that for many reasons. But if it resonates more with our audience than anything else, we might keep it anyway.

So here you go, tell us what you think and if you have a better suggestion, please share it in the comments!

Well, you are crafting a sword's power...Swordcraft actually works here, tbh. But I wouldn't use it.

I'd suggest just The Incomplete Sword, losing the first part. SWO

I'd go with "Incomplete Sword", or "Swordsmith", or even something like "Enchant". If you go with "Swordcraft", it's gonna end up having the same name problem that's going on all over lately: everyone will immediately think "Ah, Minecraft".

Which isn't a -bad- thing, but it just lacks a really memorable name that ties to your game.

Swordcraft sounds like you're ripping off Minecraft.

Incomplete Sword sounds better, but not that good. Checked thesaurus for 'Incomplete' and found 'Unpolished' and 'Fragmented'.

If you were in the market for a pun, then the only thing I can come up with is "A steel fit for a king". But thats sad and tacky.

SWO: The Incomplete Sword - What does the SWO stand for? Anyway, it's not very.. graceful. I don't know, just doesn't sounds odd.
A Sword Fit for a King - Sounds too much like something else. Also kind of long.
Steel Ascension - Sounds too much like something else. Makes sense, though.
Swordcraft - Sounds too much like, well, you know.

You could always take the easy option and name it after a character, gameplay element or setting in your game.

It depends on the art style and general feel of the game. If you're going for a cartoony style with maybe a little humor, go with A Sword Fit for a King. If it's a serious story, then something else.

Mildly Unique: Fragmented Sword, Journey Sword, Swordsmith, Shards
Generic: A King's Sword, Sword Of Kings, Sword Builder
Outlandish/Memorable: The Journey Sword Of Perfection, Inclandestine Sword, Sword Of Thine Eyes, Have Swords Will Travel, Swords Swords Swords!, A Game About Swords.

Swordcraft is actually a good title, but I can see why you don't want it. However, among the examples it's my favourite.
How about Sword Quest?

That sounds like a fantastic idea for a game, colour me intrigued!

But please, please don't call it Steel Ascension.

What about something simple? Like, for example, Cafle.

It's a made-up name, consisting of the letters in the periodic table for Carbon, Iron, and Aluminum.

CarbonAluminumFerrum, hence Calfe. Something along those lines, or another form of anagram. I don't know. Something irregular might be cool though.

"Steel Ascension" sounds cool, but it doesn't mean anything. At least, it doesn't seem to.

Go with something like "Fragmented Sword."
