Hello fellow Escapists!

I started my own video game studio and we are a team of 5 developing our first title for XBLIG/Steam. We're having a hard time finding a title for our project.

The game is about a sword that must be enchanted in many ways to become strong enough to be worthy of the King. It isn't focused on the story, the hero doesn't even have a name. It's really more of an exploration game in which there are many different possibilities of sword "builds", much like character builds in RPGs. The goal is simply to start a few different games and check how the different powers combine together and test out the results in a few dungeons.

The game has a working title, which is Swordcraft, and we'd rather not call it that for many reasons. But if it resonates more with our audience than anything else, we might keep it anyway.

So here you go, tell us what you think and if you have a better suggestion, please share it in the comments!

Damn, ninja'd! Using this, I'd say chronicles of the blade.

Wow, that was very thorough. Oh and welcome to the Escapist by the way!

I agree to pretty much everything you said. But there will indeed be a lighter tone for the game than what we've revealed yet shows. Since all we've shown are monsters, it does seem like a dark game, but there will also be lighter tones, especially while in the village, meeting the NPCs that upgrade the sword and give out the quests. And the Sword of Mettle suggestion is a good one :)
Thanks for the welcome. To be completely honest I've been cruising this website for years, but it was wanted to reply to this topic that made me make my forum account :p

So since you've said the game will have both it's dark and light sides to it, I would definitely suggest what I said before, Sword of Mettle. The sound of it, gives the basis of the game, you are doing stuff with a sword. However the used the mettle spelling of that word shows that there will also be challenges and decisions that have to be made, each with possibly a different outcome (the enchantments and such).

Well, a few weeks later we came up with a title entirely different: Brand. Thanks for your feedback everyone! I'll definitely keep involving the Escapist community as we move forward :) You guys are awesome. BTW, if you want to get a detailed explanation to why we chose that title over anything else, it's on our website!

Kings Blade would be less long winded than A sword fit for a king and it sounds more titley and Kings Sword has the same problem Demons souls had.

Also something like Mystic Sword would give across the message that it is a magic sword.

Steel Ascension sounds the least awkward to me. But keep brainstorming, you might get a better idea at some point.

STEELY RESOLVE.

What? I'd buy that game!

Edit: "Brand" is good. Simple and memorable and gets the point across. It isn't too late to switch to "Steely Resolve," though...

How about Swordsmith: The Enchanted Blade
Not sure about "Swordsmith," but I think "The Enchanted Blade" is an excellent subtitle.

OP, What's the name of the sword in the game?

Steel Ascension sounds too serious if you ask me, despite it being popular. Someone on the last page suggested Forgery. I'd want to complete that with Forgery: A Sword's Tale.

I must say that I like the sound of your game as well, and I'm very curious what else you'll do to try to stand out in the highly competitive indie market. I would've made it top-down ala the old Zelda games or isometric instead of 2.5D, but that's just me. If you ask me, that would make exploration more fun.

Drop "Sword". "Fit For a King" sounds nice.
Or that, I really like that.

^Swordsmith is better than Swordcraft

How about: A Kingly Blade
King's Edge
Hilt
The King's Swordsmith
Cleavemaster
Forger
Sword Forger
Blade Forger
Edge Forger
Bladesmith

...or varying combinations thereof...
I really like Hilt, but I dont think it fits with the "story" of the game.

I think that "A Sword Fit for a King" sounds fitting for the task that your character is given.

The Incomplete Sword - Good, sounds mysterious and quite epic.
A sword fit for a king- reminds me of old 80's fantasy films at the picture house, that's good.
Steel ascension - Sounds like anime, expect prepubescent children questing across the country to destroy a newly arisen ancient evil while carrying some kind of cute creature and becoming romantically involved with one and other all wrapped up into a coming-of-age story.
Swordcraft - Warcraft, Minecraft, Unsatisfied Plague Ridden Blacksmith: The Simulator. Too reminiscent of existing games.
You Should Keep Searching... - The ellipses make that title sound pretentious.

All of above is opinion.
