This is too hard a choice, so I'm not voting.

In general, the Elder Scrolls has better lore and backstory. Not that Fallout's is bad, but it isn't as comprehensive as the Elder Scrolls'.

After Oblivion, though, I lost faith in the Elder Scrolls for a while. Fallout 3 was a big redemptive entry for Bethesda, in part because the combat was so much better than in Oblivion and Morrowind.

But Skyrim's basic gameplay was so much better than Oblivion's. For now, it's a toss up, but I'm still very excited about Fallout 4.

Bethesda fans?

elder scrolls hands down, didn't really care for fallout 3 unless it was modded to hell and back.

but if we were to included new vegas and fallout 1 + 2,i'd be tempted to say fallout then, as the humor and atmosphere fit to my liking alot more, not to mention the characters/stories were much more gripping.

I'm going with Fallout, I liked Oblivion but I just can't like Skyrim for some reason and those are the only ones I've played.
I just started playing New Vegas and the combat is just so awesome and the writing I've seen is really good. I got high hopes for this one.

That depends; are we counting the Fallout games Bethesda didn't make? Because while I generally prefer the Fallout series, the good Fallout games weren't even made by Bethesda; they were made by Black Isle and Obsidian. But just judging Bethesda's one Fallout game against all of the Elder Scrolls games, the Elder Scrolls would wind up coming out on top.

Fallout. I'm getting royally sick of generic medieval fantasy settings. That and the combat is less boring.

Fallout, I just had way more fun with it. The combat is better. It isn't fantastic, but it's better than TES.
Also, it has a great dark humor that I rarely see in other games.

So does that include New Vegas (for which Bethesda's only involvement was publishing and QA)? I loved it, but hated Fallout 3.

If New Vegas is included, I prefer Fallout. If not, then Elder Scrolls.

Even the inhabited areas were a mess. I understand that people's morale may be low and their motivation may be lacking, but that's no excuse for not cleaning and living in filth.
So much this. I have trouble immersing myself in the world when it's so ridiculously over the top with the apocalypse stuff. It's been, what, 200+ years since the nuclear war in that game? And not a single damn clean surface in sight. I'm not asking for Pine-Sol'd floors, but damn at least clear the random crap out of your house so you don't attract Radroaches or some crap.

TES has its issues, but I can get drawn into the setting much more easily than Fallout. Which is strange, considering Fallout is at least partially set in reality and should be more relatable.

Ooh, dead heat. Interesting...

My vote went to the Elder Scrolls. I just like fantasy settings more than nuclear wasteland settings, it's as simple as that.

Fallout had potential, but it failed on so may levels for me. Unless its modded, I cant think of any reason to buy it, I at least enjoyed the vanilla Skyrim/Oblivion.

I love the atmosphere and characters of Fallout much more, also I love the mutilations, so satisfying!

Still love Elder Scrolls though.

Elder Scrolls all the way, I love the Fallout games as well, but I just love fantasy settings.

Elder Scrolls.

If only because I consider Skyrim to be the best Bethesda game released yet. If they make another Fallout game and it's better than Skyrim, my vote would shift over to Fallout, as I find that setting more interesting than TES setting.

I've played Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas...and I'm having MUCH more fun in New Vegas. The storyline is somehow much more interesting to me.

That and you can actually kill people. Don't like somebody in Skyrim? Too bad, they're needed for a QUEST. New Vegas? Start shooting, you'll learn you failed that quest AFTER they're dead. :D

50/50 at a 34 split after I cast my vote. Also, are we talking about B Game Studios (dev), or B Softworks (pub)?

I'll approach this as a question about unmodded vanilla versions of Softworks' two most popular franchises.

'Fallout series' versus 'TES series'?
TES wins.

Single titles against each other?
Fallout 3 wins against Skyrim, Morrowind and Oblivion, but only just. Fallout: New Vegas, however, is their worst game so far.

Basically it boils down to this:

...both are different in what you are getting.
Elder Scrolls gives you a fantasy epic with tons of adventuring and exploring large mountains and ancient ruins from a lost civilization with many classes to choose from.

Fallout lets you explore the wastes and ruins of the old world trying to find weapons and ammo to survive (gets easier when ammo is thrown at you) with quests to follow and watching humanity trying to survive (Fallout 3 did this well) or seeing how humanity has risen from the ashes and rebuilding (F:NV did this well)

I am a fan of both and look forward to Fallout 4 (hope they pull off all the stops to piss of purist fans and bring in more new fans, the whining would be delightful)
Xplosive and Tizzy nailed it on the head, your question is a bit vague and there are too many differences. It's like trying to ask me if I prefer Halo or Battlefield multiplayer, when they're in almost completely different leagues within the same genre and I find equal entertainment in both.

Fallout because its the only game that has its setting, gameplay, and lore.

Elder Scrolls is pretty much Sword & Sorcery title no. 10789034098 just with a big world.

Fallout.

Atmosphere, setting, combat (don't like to use VATS though). And there's just something that rubs me the wrong way about Elder Scrolls, even though I prefer fantasy over sci-fi any day of the week.
