Also from California, but I went to private schools from kindergarten to high school graduation, so I can't talk about public education. That being said, I am pretty sure California public schools still suck considering how bad the grade reports seem to say.

As for my school, I've only been back once to visit a teacher I really liked, I asked him how much had changed, and he said not much has changed. It looked the same as far as I could tell save for a few renovations here and there. I went after school hours, so I didn't see the school in action either. Pretty much exactly the same as I left it, which is kinda nice. I am curious to see how my elementary school is doing, I bet it looks similar to when I graduated too.

As far as I'm aware the school I went to hasn't changed aside form the fact that a lot of my older teachers have retired, particularly art teachers (once I was gone no kid could ever measure up, gotta leave on that high note).

But generally my memories of High-school were full of 'meh', if there were dicks they were rare appearance and all too brief for me to dwell upon with any sense of vengeful fury. Forgotten their faces and names, and most left me the Hell alone or got super friendly after they found out I could draw boobs.
Generally I found high school a grand waste of time, bored out of my skull, not learning a thing.

Can't speak much for American schools, since you've got that whole thing with the guns and gangs and Macho-Man Randy Savage dragons.

This thread caught me a little off-guard... I came in expecting to give an opinion based on provided examples. Instead, I realize I have no fucking idea what high schools in inner-city Portland are like 15 years after I graduated from one. None. Most of what I remember about high school was attempting to avoid any and all human contact for fear that I'd have to talk to the police in the aftermath. My social life took place outside the school with an older crowd. As for the quality of the education... nil, I got my actual education through other means.

I suppose that's not entirely fair. High school did teach me that a 9mm parabellum round fired from a typical full-sized handgun across three city blocks and through a window can lose enough velocity that it doesn't break skin.

That's hard to say seeing how I don't think anyone can experience High School twice, one in the past and another in the present.
