There is no genre of music that uniformly sucks*. I used to think I didn't like hip hip or rap, but it's a story telling style of music, and when I listened to some Aussie stuff, with relevance to my every day life, I gained a new appreciation of the genre.

It's never a good idea to close off to anything new.

*Except experimental themed punk. Take your pretentious art-wank noise outta my face.
I'm sorry it looks like I'm post stalking you but I'm just wasting time in class... Just had to say I totally agree with the experimental themed punk thing, I can't stand that stuff. That made me laugh though.
Hahaa, it's cool!

Oh experimental themed punk, my musical nemesis. There's an Aussie band called the Red Paintings, who I've had the misfortune to see twice, opening for bands I love enought to endure any cruddy opener.

The majority of the band wear kabuki styled make up, and kimonos, the lead singer wears a leather deerstalker hat, and a green coat with toy babies stapled to it.

And then they combine a lack of musical talent with a voice like a whining dog and lyrics that couldn't be more tryhard and 'edgy'.

And then there is the painting that is done whilst the band performs.

It all combines to create a band that have interesting elements and come together to be so calculated and cynical in their 'randomness'. It's unnerving and unpleasant and why I hate experimental theme punk.

/end ridiculous rant

Just like all other music, there are good songs and crap songs except this genre probably has more crap than good. So yes, I even liked Eminem because he is funny and I am a classic rock fan so that means something.

I don't like most of the stuff in those genres but there are exceptions.

I generally like music that I think is good and I do not say one genre is great and another one sucks and I never listen to it.

you can't spell crap, without rap!

music is like candy: you throw away the rapper!

i hate the whole thing. mostly because it's just about nothing at all. it's a loud of guys with thick thuggish accents saying they're going out to kill someone, slap up dere ***** and make cash, and complain about not having a cadillac

I just want to know what some people's views are personally, I cannot stand that music i think it is horrid no originality. It is a bunch of repeted lyrics and bass. But some might like it.
Ok, you just slighted two whole genre's, and an urban subculture. This is bad for two reasons: 1) R&B and the Hip-Hop culture inspired whole generations of music and art and 2)there is no way you can possibly lay the whole "horrid" and "no originality" claims on a genre that spans so many labels and artists. The idea that you have any REAL opinion on the vast majority of two genres and a subculture is laughable. The fact that you lack specificity, in my eyes, means you lack any real knowledge of either, and are going to by stupid shit songs like "Get Silly" and "Yeah", which is more a variation on Pop than true R&B and Hip-Hop.

Do I care that you do not like any of the things you name? No. Not in the least. It takes different strokes to move the world. But by calling these genre's "horrid no originality", it makes you seem like an ass. An ass who is making an argument that you seem to know nothing about.

well...having a late birthday myself and given the fact that all my friends who have their drivers licenses already all listen to rap/hip hop I'm kind of exposed to it all of the damn time. Although i do like a few of the songs i have heard so i assume there is some good stuff out there, you just have to sift through a LOT of shit to get it.

Bah coming from a chavy school has rubbed off on me and I've acquired a linking for some R&B and D&B but aside from that i hate the gangster scene.

Generalising a genre of music after hearing not even 1% of what it has to offer is a very quick way to label yourself as a philistine. Just saying...

I used to be straight Country but now I've started to listen to Pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B. Listening to it right now as a matter of fact.
So yeah, I like it.

R&B stands for Rhythm And Blues...
That's not what I'm hearing today.
Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke and even bands like The Who and The Beatles are true Rhythm & Blues.
